Description

Akira is a young Etrean with widely scuffled hair, a frown, and sharp eyes. He wears the Black Diver outfit, and a pair of Dewdrop Earrings.

He has a Katana behind his back and a Corrupted Bell resting at his hip.

His Bell (Corrupted Top-Pop) allows him to instantaneously grip any entity he wishes at the cost of his lifespan and power. However, the stronger the target is, the more power and lifespan he will have to sacrifice to kill them.

Players who have 75 Charisma can intimidate him into retreating. Akira's perception of you being an extremely intimidating and strong threat probably leads him to the reasonable conclusion that he's not going to get away with using his Bell on you without experiencing large repercussions, and thus retreats to another area.

Despite him lacking in the experience department due to his young age, he's one of the strongest Black Divers, surpassing Klaris, Chaser and the strongest players.[1]

Location

Akira is first found in the Celtor Wastes, protecting an area for a Divers Research division which can be found facing the flat gate and following the wall right until you reach a decrepit castle. He spawns in an event that isn't guaranteed, meaning you may need to server hop to meet him.

You meet him a second time after completing the event and accepting the challenge to meet him at Castle Light. Upon arrival he is on the second floor of the castle. He gives you the option to unbound your willpower, and the choice to join the Divers, but warns that it is an extremely dangerous job.

Akira vs. Ignition Union Event

This event takes place at the decrepit research castle, upon triggering the event 4 Ignition Union NPCS will approach Akira, who is resting on the ground. A conversation ensues where Akira threatens their lives if they don't leave and creates a line of ice with a unique mantra. The leader of the Union research platoon claims that "This one's sanity must've already crumbled," and seems unfazed before approaching him and walking past the line, which causes Akira to say, "So be it," and uses his Corrupted Top-Pop to cause their heads to explode.

After this you are able to talk to Akira, in which he has two different conversation paths. (There is a Charisma option, 100 required to pass it.) Once you talk to him, he asks if you're another Ignition Union member, in which you are supposed to say you aren't with them. This leads to a conversation where he tells you why he's there and offers to let you join the Divers if you make it to Castle Light.

Research platoon?
Is there something surprising about that or are you just uneducated..? We're currently in the Depths, we Divers blow boatloads of Authority funding on expeditions down here.
I just thought the Divers didn't kill people as you did.
Oh you mean those mudskippers from the Ignition Union just now? Calling them 'people' is somewhat of a stretch. Anyone who crosses me is an ally of the Depths for all I care. My judgment is absolute.

Do you have some sort of reason for being here? This is territory of the Divers.
We met before, I want to join the Divers.
Oh, right.. You're serious, huh? I don't know what part of a diver's work you're interested in, but if you're resourceful enough to get through the life field protecting this place, you're smart enough to know that you're walking to your grave, surely.
To my grave?
That's right. I've been a diver close to ten years now. Every year, I meet hundreds of new ambitious recruits anxious to begin their research and so on, and by the end of the year only one or two will remain.
Only one or two?
Only one or two. If you seriously want to join an organization with a 98% annual casualty rate, then by all means, you're welcome to. I can't promise you that it'll go well for you, though.
I want to join.
Don't say I didn't warn you.

*Akira blinks twice, apparently stunned, before smirking whilst replying,* That may be the spirit needed to join the 2%.
Hanging around here isn't going to make any progress for us. Get out there and get to work.
What exactly should I be doing?
You should be out there scouring this layer for artifacts, items imbued with affinity to the Depths, that sort of thing.
Then why are you waiting here?
*You feel murderous intent wash over you as the man glares in your direction* Come again? I didn't quite hear you.
Nothing.
As I thought... In any case, most of my field work assignments don't concern this layer. For now, I'm here to handle management and territory defense, that sort of thing.

Joining the Divers

Once you reach Castle Light, and he gives you the option to join the Divers. The guild does not currently come with many benefits, apart from a maxed-out guild base, which you can access with Dwelling Charms. However, we know about some planned features: such as rewards from finding Artifacts in the Depths and turning them into either the Castle or Diver Camp. Joining the Divers will also have some effects upon travelling to the Central Luminant, where the Diver Capital is.

There is no level requirement to join the Divers.

Trivia

  • He uses an unobtainable Frostdraw spell. Upon usage he summons a laser across the ground in front of him, creating a line of frost.
  • His sword is the only instance of a Katana being strapped to the back rather than sheathed. (It is confirmed to be actually floating behind him, rather than being strapped to his back.)

  • Whenever you try to spook him with a Hallowtide Mask, he doesn't get spooked and instead just says, "I've seen worse."
  • Akira's bell is officially called "Top-pop."
  • Akira's bell flashes purple when he kills the Ignition Union officers.
  • Akira has an unobtainable necklace, it's hard to see with the current image of him.

  • For some reason, the Ignition Union research platoon members are still interactable during Akira's event, functioning as normal Ignition Union Guards. They can also be moved around by sliding underneath them, although this will not change the outcome of the event.
    • Like Kennith after he gets dismembered, the prompt to interact with the guards will remain after their heads explode, but they will all have no dialogue as a likely result of being dead.
    • Even more strangely, they all seem to be linked in some way or another, as they will only ever spawn with all four of them having Enchanted weapons or none at all.
    • They can also be spat on, which will make them equip their weapon, then unequip it.
