Description[]

The Alpha Megalodaunt is a unique type of Megalodaunt most commonly found within the Depths and the Starswept Valley. In addition, they may also be found, curiously, inside the Crypt of the Unbroken located at Minityrsa, found hanging around in one of the libraries.

“ Subordinate megalodaunts tend to pay close attention to the alpha of their territory, for reasons we cannot understand. Subject A has expressed the impressive ability to bring a creature as lazy as Subject C to his feet, a feat insurmountable to us, meager scholars. ”

As their name might suggest, they are the Alphas within a Megalodaunt Pack, and are considered as the dominant creature inside it's respective pack. However, Alpha Megalodaunts are never observed to be within a pack, and like other Megalodaunts, are usually found either idling alone, or fighting other things alone.

They are much stronger than their regular counterparts with their skin appearing as dark blue rather than pale. Whether or not this is the result of mutations remains unknown, though it is notable that they are capable of using Tacet, a murmur used to suppress one's own song to temporarily become unperceivable by other entities. In this case, it is used for hunting.

Despite all of the above, they behave like regular Megalodaunts.

Attacks[]

Name/Danger Description GIF
Slash
(★☆☆)
⬤ Physical
A short range Slash using their forearms, often used twice in a row or paired with a kick.
  • Heavy posture damage. Will commonly block break after two hits.
  • If the Megalodaunt slashes 2 times in a row, it will have a short period where it doesn't attack, letting you hit it 3 times with MED or LHT or 2 times with HVY. This attack chain never occurs twice in a row.
    • if the Megalodaunt only slashes once, it will wait the same time as two slashes before attacking again but if it performs a single slash while standing still then it will quickly deliver a kick after.

Kick
(★★☆)
⬤ Physical
The Megalodaunt's leg will flash red before delivering a Kick that can rag-doll and send the player flying.
  • Causes the player to be Dazed if kicked into a wall.
  • This ability is very dangerous as it cannot be blocked and can send you into unwanted situations.
  • This attack visually appears as a bite attack without the red flash if the Megalodaunt is swimming.
  • Creates the longest duration in which the beast doesn't attack, letting you freely hit it more than the other attacks allow.

Thousand Needles
(★☆☆)
⬤ Physical
The Megalodaunt bends over and points its coral tubes towards an opponent, spewing a large and constant spray of coral shards at anyone in front of/around it for a second.
  • There is a shorter ranged AOE version and a single target version. Both function the same.

(★★☆)
Lets out a Roar at nearby targets, initiating combat and inflicting a generous amount of insanity. After this, it usually tends to use Thousand Needles or Kick in quick succession.
  • Blocking negates much of but not all the insanity gain.
  • Increases posture damage against all players affected by the roar, similarly to Ardour Scream.\

Tacet Drop Kick
(★☆☆)
⬤ Physical
The alpha turns invisible, with a white ring signifying where they are. After a few seconds, it will turn visible again, throwing out its entire body in a drop kick. This attack is rarely used. (Theorized that this move only occurs when the target is airborne, switching the attack when the Megalodaunt re-appears due to Tacet Hug being unlikely to land on a player who is high off the ground.)
