- “ Deep gashes creating elegant lines decorate the body. They're beast-like in nature, with an extreme depth to each one. A sense of dread washes over you, almost as if you were in the gaze of a predator. ”
Description
Bounders are monsters that dwell within the Second Layer of The Depths and can spawn Corrupted within The Diluvian Mechanism. They are infamous for their lethality, with an equally horrific appearance.
Bounders have significantly hunched posture, elongated limbs, six ringed eyes, disturbingly humanoid hands and notably, an upsettingly wide mouth with two sets of gigantic teeth. Bounders aren't naturally bipedal, instead moving around in a quadrupedal manner.
Whenever an entity enters the territory or hunting grounds of a Bounder, an echoing growl can be heard, signifying their presence (though not necessarily their aggression). By default, they will crawl around at a relatively slow pace, only ever displaying their speed and agility while hunting.
Bounders are comparatively harder to kill than most other monsters in the world of Deepwoken due to their high damage and their above average health pool. While they have a relatively simple moveset, their erratic movements and devestating strikes make them difficult to pin down. They are unforgiving terrors that can finish off anyone who isn't accustomed to their behavior within seconds.

Trivia
- They're considered the spiritual successor to Jack, the second Monster ever created for Deepwoken.
- Despite its resemblance to the Megalodaunt, its anatomy more-so resembles a frog, evident by their posture and ability to leap long distance, and the way they attack prey.
- Like every other monster in the Second Layer, Mute has no effect on Bounders.
- Curiously, Bounders are social creatures, as shown by their ability to create nests and live as a pack. Beyond this, there isn't much evidence that can support both the extent of their social behavior, or even how they are capable of reproducing.
- Bounders are often considered by the community as one of the most dangerous monsters in the Second Layer, if not the entire game due to their insane damage
- It was said by Arch_Mage that there was supposed to be a type of Bounder that was infected with Parasites. However, this concept never made it into the game.
- Their cry is a heavily distorted wolf howl.
- Their item drop, the Bounder Claw, can be taken out of the Second Layer without having to defeat Chaser (either by using the Light Hook or Ignition Deepdriller).
- On 12/27/24, it was discovered that the icon for the Bounder when it killed someone was the texture of its inner cheek/gums, which resembled an inappropriate image. It was deemed The Boundingaling Incident.
