Description

Carbuncles are an enemy monster NPC of Layer 2 and in certain locations of Lumen, and the final form of Diver Husks. They also appear in The Diluvian Mechanism.

Tips

• Carbuncles apply hitstun unlike most other monsters, potentially making them a formidable threat against powerful yet unprepared players, and annoying due to stunlocking in groups.
  • Attacks with Hyperarmor can still ignore their hitstun, such as the Enforcer's Axe critical.
    • This does not apply to The Diluvian Mechanism, due to them mainly being Thunderstruck.
• Carbuncles always have hyperarmor, shrugging off all attacks that apply daze or stun.
• They signify what kind of attack they'll use with an initial, distorted growl.

Trivia

• Carbuncles were first conceptualized in 2020, and remained floating around in the game's files for the entirety of Verse 1. They were finally added in 2022 in the Second Layer.
• Carbuncles originate from The Eternal Gale's Parasites that brooded their victims, later in their initial phase of incubation.
• With further analysis of what the Parasite does to the host's movement, the Parasite uses both of its limbs and the host's to maneuver and attack.
• Carbuncles in real life are pus filled boils that form under the skin due to infections. Don't search those up if you are easily repulsed by pus. Alternatively, it can refer to a gemstone.
• The noises Carbuncles produce come from the 'Lunatic Cultist' boss from Terraria when it gets hurt.
