Description[]

Carrion, the "Father of Evolution," is a Ganymede Black Diver and master alchemist. Initially found in the Grand Library of New Kyrsa, he later resides in the Castle Light library (after proving you're unaffiliated with Klaris).

He teaches monster mantras (given the right materials) and can untarnish the player's Resonance for 1 .

You can barely make out the sounds of laughter as you approach. Oh? Salutations! It looks like as if you finally arrived.
Huh?
Well I can only assume Klaris and her little brigade were on their way here, unless you work for someone else? That would be quite a twist!
I work for Klaris.	I work for no one.
He lets out an audible sigh.. [sic] How disappointing.. Well get going then, Ethiron is sure to wake momentarily. Divers are all the same now, all work and no passion.	He lets out an audible sigh. Lying now are we? Do you think I was born yesterday? Well, wouldn't that be funny? Could you imagine talking to a self aware baby down in the depths of a horrible city built to an unknowable god? Incredible.
Ethiron is waking momentarily?!		Real funny man.	I need help.
I really must be getting old, it slipped my mind that no one has been to this City in decades. The egg hatches soon, little diver. The wails of the screaming child born under the snow will bring it all crashing down. ANYWAY, do you happen to have any rare monster parts?		Tehehehehe. That's the spirit! Now, if you happen to be in the area with some rare monster parts, then you be sure to let me know.	No no no. NO. I am not about to get caught up in the affairs of Klaris and her little superhero group. I want nothing to do with stopping Ethiron or anything of that nature. Look, you went toe to toe with Chaser. He's probably one of the strongest Divers that the Citadel has ever produced, save for Akira and Klaris. You have this completely under control... probably. Anyway, if you ever happen to find some rare monster parts, you be sure to bring them to me.

He looks at you with a puzzled expression. No? Should I be? That's what you're here for after all, correct? His mouth twitches into a smile momentarily and just as soon back to a puzzling frown. You can sense that man is cackling internally, laughing at your expense.

What's your name?

*He pauses as if giving the question some thought.* You can call me.... Dr. Diver. *He says looking at you, grinning from eat to ear.*

I mean a real name.

What makes a name real or fake? If it's what I want you to call me, then who are you to say that my name isn't real? The manners of surface dwellers haven't improved with time I see.

Think you can do something with the monster parts I've collected?
Oh wonderful, what do you have? I can only work with the ones I'm familiar with.
I have a broken gatling gun...?	I have the hardened shell of a Terrapod.	I have the hidden beak of a Nautilodaunt.	I have the back coral of a Megalodaunt.	I have a tooth prised from a Dread Serpent's mouth.	I managed to retrieve this strange bone from a Bonekeeper.	I have the talon of a Thresher.	I found what appears to be an Enforcer's eye.
With surprising ferocity, they snatch the ingredient from your hand and begin crushing it into a fine dust. In the blink of an eye, they scatter it in your face, prompting you to cough. Heheh! Try that. Let me know if it works.

Untarnishing[]

If you talk to him with a Resonance and the Tarnished flaw, he will offer to untarnish it for 1 Knowledge, this is unlocked permanently on all slots after meeting him for the first time in New Kyrsa.

Monster Mantras[]

Note: To get the option to obtain Monster Mantras: you must talk to him and in New Kyrsa and tell him "I work for no one." After this he will appear in the library at Castle Light, where you can interact with him again to obtain monster mantras.

Abyssal Ridge	Based on the Nautilodaunt's Grand Stomp attack. The user stomps onto the ground and sends out a homing eruption, automatically targeting the nearest opponent.	Nautilodaunt Beak

Whirling Blade	Grow a Terrapod claw from their left arm and spin forward after a short windup, cancelling if parried.	Terrapod Shell

Trivia[]

Carrion is based on Doc, a player who was one of the first members of the Divers guild. As a result, they have taken up that mantle.
- While technically fanart, a picture of Dr. Carrion, drawn by SudoMesh, has been taken by him as his official appearance.
Carrion means the flesh of a dead animal, which is fitting considering that he converts monster drops into mantras.
In the dialogue with Klaris after interacting with Carrion in New Kyrsa: the player will note Carrion describing himself as "Dr. Diver".
It has been confirmed by Arch_Mage that Dr. Carrion escaped from Layer 2 by stepping on Klaris' Light Hook, but it has not been confirmed if it is the same light hook the player used to escape Layer 2. This, of course, doesn't make any sense if you think about it for more than 10 seconds since he can return to Castle Light without you having taken the Light Hook.^[1] This also contradicts Doc's own words that it was a clone, but since he has a tendency to just say stuff, his word should probably taken with two mountains of salt.
