Deepbound

Deepbound is a Depths-focused Origin, granting unique bonuses and progression methods for Depths content. As such, this Origin has garnered the reputation of being a 'PvE Origin'.

Obtainment[]

Encounter Akira in the Celtor Wastes and inquire to him about joining The Divers. Reunite with him in Castle Light to obtain the Origin.

Warning: Do not attempt the Charisma check with Akira. If you do not have 90 or higher Charisma, you will be killed and you will wipe. If you have 90 or higher charisma, you won't be able to gain this Origin.

Spawn[]

Deepbounds spawn with the Diver Apprentice Robes equipped, 25 Notes2, and the Call of the Deep and Deepbound Contract Talents. You can choose to spawn at either Castle Light or the Diluvian Mechanism by clicking their respective icons in Character Creation.

Due to time differences in the Depths, your character will be 17 years old on spawn, instead of the usual 18.

Effects[]

You cannot enter the Trial of One, even if you escape the Depths at power 1.

You can enter the Temple of Hearts through a hidden crevasse in the wall next to the Resonance door. You can also speak to Yun'Shul as a Deepbound without him killing you, though you still won't be able to make any wishes unless you have a Resonance.

Deepbound Contract[]

Your experience gain while in the Depths is greatly increased, while your experience gain in overworld is greatly decreased. While below power 15, you'll gain another experience multiplier.

You can restore your sanity in the Depths by going to Castle Light or defeating Monsters. Castle Light will always be open to you, even if you've drowned. Additionally, all NPCs and amenities at Castle Light will be accessible (e.g. the Banker, Antiquarian, and Stove).

Your Depths Trial is always an Enforcer unless you add additional modifiers like Vow of Thorns. This can be both a good thing and a bad thing: on one hand, if you are experienced with fighting Enforcers, then this isn't a downside at all, but on the other hand, the Enforcer a strong enemy and you will need to face them on every Trial regardless of your level.

Call of the Deep[]

Deepbounds gain a Talent tool called Call of the Deep, that is used to teleport the player to the First Layer or Castle Light. On use, your character will kneel with the ground turning into a black whirlpool. After 5 seconds, the player will be dragged down into the whirlpool, teleporting to the respective location.

When used in the overworld, the player will delve into the First Layer without drowning. When used in the First Layer, the player will teleport directly to Castle Light with a 20 minute cooldown.

Pros and Cons[]

Pros[]

  • Increased experience gain in the Depths and an additional EXP multiplier while below Power 15, allowing for a very swift progression.
  • You start with the Diver Apprentice Robes, an Adept Outfit, and 25 Notes2.
  • Call of the Deep is incredibly useful as a potential time saver.
  • Sanity maintenance is incredibly easy, allowing you to stay in the Depths for extended periods of time.
  • Castle Light becomes a sanctuary within the Depths, having nearly all amenities a town needs and always being available to you.
  • You gain access to the Temple of Hearts without a Resonance.

Cons[]

  • You gain reduced experience while outside of the Depths.
  • Your Depths Trial will always be an Enforcer, though this is only really a con for lower levels.
  • You cannot do Trial of One, even if you escape the Depths at Power 1, though the Diluvian Mechanism may be a good alternative.
  • Deepbound, at least in its progression, is very Depths centered, significantly raising the stakes, as a singular death will lead to you wiping.

Trivia[]

  • The Deepbound Origin was originally a Flaw, added before Origins even existed, however this was changed into an Origin during the 8/22/2022 update.
  • Deepbound is obtained only after talking to Akira about joining The Divers; you don't have to accept the request to join the Guild in order to obtain Deepbound. This misconception led to a handful of players leaving/disbanding their guilds.
    • There was a bug in which joining The Divers as an Officer or Leader of your own guild would make you one in the Divers guild.
  • Both Voidwalker and Deepbound were suggested by user MrTheBest2, who was later made a tester for a period of time.[1]
