“ Vermin! You seek to let Celtor repeat? ”

Description[]

Duke Ishamon Erisia (commonly shortened to Duke Erisia or just Duke) is a Boss the player fights during "The Lord Regent's Quest" and is located in Duke Erisia's Laboratory within Duke Erisia's Manor. Defeating him will give you the Talent “Attunement Unbound” and “Weapon Unbound,” but only if you have 75 Attunement and/or 75 Weapon upon executing him.

Defeating him will also allow Galebreathe users to unlock the Pillars of Erisia mantra in a Whisper hand, a modified version of his Gale Stomp.

He is a noble who resided in the City of Celtor before the Great Drowning. In appearance, the Duke is a Marten Celtor. He wears a Slate Aristocrat Coat over the Eager Tradesman starter outfit with Eyeglasses. He also has a Resonance by his side that allows him to create and control Rock Golems, although it is never visibly used during the boss fight. The Duke of Erisia is a martial arts user and is specialized in the Legion Kata style. Alongside his martial attacks, he wields extremely powerful and exclusive Galebreathe mantras.

While the Duke is immune to instant guardbreaks, his posture pool is incredibly low, meaning most instant guardbreaks will still posture break him. With a Stone 10+ Weight Weapon, combined with a Heavy Hands Ring and Ardour Scream, you can oneshot his posture every M1.

Moveset[]

Duke Erisia's arsenal consists of Way of Navae light attacks and a Legion Kata Critical with an Iron Cestus and Galebreathe.

Talents[]

  • Impervious Slumber - Hitting knocked Duke won't reset his time knocked, he cannot be carried as well. Grip him while you can.
  • Breathing Impact - When knocked into objects by wind mantras you will take additional blunt damage based off of how hard you are hit.
  • After Cut - If an attack is physical and wind it will apply an after cut that does 10% of the damage dealt to you again. If an attack was a mantra, it does 5% damage instead.
  • Suffocating Impact - When flourished into walls by Duke, you are suffocated and winded for a short duration.
  • Gale Coil - Duke's suffocates last twice as long.
  • Stifled Jump - If you jump while suffocated by Duke you will be dazed.
  • Air Pressure - When Duke dodges an attack or hits your block his next dash will be a Gale Dash.
  • Pressure Break - When Duke breaks your posture, you will take intense wind pressure damage and be flung backwards.
  • Silencer's Edge - If Duke melees you while you are 'Suffocated' he will gain a speed boost.
  • Silencer's Blade - If Duke melees you while you are 'Suffocated' it will extend the duration of the Suffocation
  • Collapsed Lung - When block broken by Duke you are unable to Vent for 3s.
  • Dirty Boxing - If Duke hits you after feinting you with his fist, you will suffer slight bleed and have your vision obscured slightly.
  • Concussion - When Duke flourishes you into walls you will have your vision altered for a short duration and will be dazed longer than usual.
  • Concussive Force - Enemies knocked by Duke will remain downed longer than usual.
  • Bulldozer - If flourished into a wall by Duke, you have a chance to break the wall and be guard broken on impact.
  • Million Ton Piercer - Duke has 5% extra PEN and has no PEN cap.
  • Shield Breaker - Blunt damage from Duke now deals full posture damage to shields (essentially your shield is useless for blocking).
  • Audacity - When Duke starts manually gripping you, he will create an AoE stun around him and slow people around him. It will also make him ignore Defiant Until the End and Last Second Negotiation. (Though this Talent sucks, just use a ranged mantra)
  • Matador - Duke deals +20% more damage to human enemies with hyperarmor.
  • Showstopper - When you roll through one of Duke's physical attacks, he will stomp the ground, negating your speed boosts and dazing everyone nearby.
  • Berserker - When Duke knocks an enemy, he gains 20% DMG resistance for 15 seconds.
  • Charged Return - Being under an elemental status effect causes Duke's M1's and critical attacks to do 20% more damage.
  • Boss Armor - Duke is immune to instant guard break effects.

Finisher[]

Duke Erisia executes his opponent after knocking them:

Name Description
Wind Collapse Getting hit by any of his wind moves while you're low will cause you to die instantly.
Execute Pins down opponent before firmly bashing their face.

Combat[]

Do not attempt to vent when he has a shield on otherwise it'll be parried. Only poses a big threat to solo players during the 1st phase. He's far more aggressive and dangerous in the first phase.

In terms of strategy to avoid his attacks as much as possible;

  • If he isn't moving or doing anything, he's preparing for a mantra. You can get three safe hits in with a heavy or medium weapon, at which point you should stop attacking and prepare for his attack. Reading his mantras is very difficult, due to the fact that many of them have a low windup or are hard to read; for the highest level of consistency, it's best to do a full dodge (from my experience), but you'll want to learn your own strategy for handling him in the first phase.
  • If Duke does his Strong Left attack, he will follow it up by attempting to combo you with regular punches and criticals. Parry trading with him is relatively simple, as you know he will parry every attack, and he doesn't feint often. This is the time when you'll want to do the most damage, but only m1 to keep consistency.
  • Heavy-Hands Ring & Murmur: Ardour can drastically increase posture damage, making Duke's first phase much faster.
  • After dealing enough damage, his shield will turn off, allowing you to hit him normally. If you're low on health, however, you'll still need to focus hard to avoid dying, as many of his mantras insta-grip. Focus on backing him into a corner and posture-breaking him as much as possible, but keep in mind he has a very high amount of Tempo and so he'll vent every time you flourish him into a wall.
  • When you see him summon his servants, you've pretty much won, as you'll be able to regenerate back to full health immediately. Keep backing him into a corner so he cannot back out of your effective range, and attack him constantly until he dies.
  • The best enchant to use for this fight, assuming you have an enchanted weapon, is Vampirism, as this allows you to heal off him in the second phase (sometimes, he won't spawn his servants in at all - this seems luck-dependant.) You can also use enchants like Detonation or Astral to focus on high damage, but Vampirism makes it safer.
  • You must STAY ALIVE whilst his shield is active, if you are knocked you cannot be saved as his shield blocks and parries every attack and any players who try to save you will have their attacks parried.
  • If you attempt to assassinate him, the fight will automatically start.
  • Since the Mindless Servants can hinder your attack and serve as a nuisance, Mercy Kill is a very beneficial ability against them because it can instantly kill an enemy with little health, which is advantageous. If you do not have Mercy Kill you can bait out Duke's autogripping attacks to quickly deal with them.
  • As The Duke tries to block a lot defensively in the second phase, the Enforcer Axe and Hammer are excellent candidates for Heavy Weapons because they can quickly rip through posture.

Phases[]

Phases begin in sequence, depending on the Bosses' Max HP.

  • Phase 1 - Tempest Shield: Upon initiating the fight, The Duke surrounds himself with a shield of Galebreathe, instantly parrying all attacks and Mantras. To destroy the shield, land attacks until it breaks. Focuses on damage . (15k per player)
  • Phase 2 - Hand-to-hand combat: The Duke's shield vanishes, and he will let himself get hit for a while before fighting back. During this phase, he may snap his fingers, teleporting the Mindless Servants from their tubes to all nearby Players (Teleports 3 servants per player, and the remainder of them when there's less than 3 x n servants, where n = present players).

Rewards[]

Upon defeating The Duke, you are rewarded a colossal sized chest that contains:

Dialogue[]

Begin
So you're the one running about tripping my alarms. Care to explain yourself?
The Lord Regent sent me to retrieve the Forge. What are you doing with the forge? Contractor
Let's skip the pleasantries, you know why I'm here.
That thing is finally making its move. hm? I'd thought it would come personally, but the Lord Regent must see me as a mere agent's workload.
*He narrows his eyes, deathly cold.* Everything I can do to stop the oncoming catastrophe, you indolent worm. With it, I turn useless fools like you into something of use... You don't know what I do for mankind. You're right, there's no reasoning with a monster like you. For Lumen's salvation, I will be the one to slay you.
That 'thing'? Agent? End
*The Duke eyes you up and down for a moment before bursting into a roaring laughter.*
What?
Other Deepbound Voidwalker
*The Duke smiles.* I'd thought for sure you were an agent, but you're what- let me guess, some notable Etrean adventurer or something? That island's prospects are certainly grim...
*The Duke smiles.* I'd thought for sure you were an agent, but you're what- let me guess, some accursed fool the Divers have made their latest charity project? That island's prospects are certainly grim...
*The Duke smiles.* Etrea has really stooped to hiring the blades of its enemies? That island's prospects are certainly grim...
What are you talking about?
There's no real point in explaining further, as this is the end of the line. Even if you gave up on the Forge, I'm not about to let one who's seen this manor's layout roam free.
End

Begin
The ruins of that city will never cage me. And with what's at stake... I can't stop now.
Let's get on with it.
Other Contractor
You're right. I'm wasting valuable time on you. Lumen's salvation will not wait for fools who would deny it.
You're right. There's no reasoning with a monster like you. For Lumen's salvation, I will be the one to slay you.

Trivia[]

  • The music for his bossfight is Sin-Smelted Scoriae by Naktigonis.
    • Naktigonis also provides the voice of the Duke, first heard in an April Fools Twitter post posted by Naktigonis, joking about Sin-Smelted Scoriae's release.
  • The Duke gives the third best "monster" bell progression, with 1st and 2nd being Scion of Ethiron and Primadon respectively.
  • Initially, it was unclear if he was escaping The Depths each time he was refought. Arch_Mage thus made unique dialogue for his rematches, but due to a bug, these were not implemented until 8/7/23.[citation needed] The current dialogue states "The ruins of that city will never cage me. And with what's at stake... I can't stop now" when you fight Duke after your first encounter. This dialogue shows that Duke does in fact, escape the Depths after you kill him.
  • In older versions of Deepwoken, you would have to make sure your group catches up with you. If you entered first, they would've likely been locked out of the boss room. This no longer happens as everyone will be teleported into the boss room once the first person activates the barrier.
  • This bosses attacks heavily resemble the interpretation of TOARU's Accelerator in Anime Battle Arena, a game that Par has worked on prior.
    • Specifically, Binding Tempest correlates to Air Grasp, Strong Left correlates to Ground Accelerate, Wind Gun correlates to Air Quake, Counter correlates to Redirect, Gale Stomp correlates to Ground Quake, and Cyclone Bomb correlates to Plasma.
    • They also both laugh manically following a successful counter.
      • Cyclone Bomb also bears a striking resemblance to Goku's Spirit bomb from the Dragon Ball franchise.
  • Duke will always laugh when his counter is activated, even if the attack is from a mob such as a prime golem.
  • Before the Stoneheart's description referred to him as Ishamon, his first name remained unknown, leading to it becoming a meme in the community.
    • Upon being asked, Arch_Mage said his name was "Duke Fancypants."
    • Naktigonis said it was "Duke Duke Erisia Erisia (of Erisia)."
  • As of 6/10/2024, this is possibly the most commonly trolled page in the Deepwoken Wiki.
  • Elaborating from the Stoneheart's description, his Resonance is likely corrupted, considering his acquisition of the Forge, allowing him to expand his golem capacity by a greater amount, whereas the Sinner's Ash relic allows it to corrupt one's Resonance while being a remnant of the Forge.
  • His hair ID is 4374334355.
  • Duke's Colors: #bfb5a9 Skin | #414A3B Hair | #7d9600 Pupils | #414A3B Facial Marking | #564236 Eyeglasses | Pastel Green - Resonance
  • In a video about seals, Duke states he is a Virgo.
  • In a video from Naktigonis celebrating the millionth viewing of Sin-Smelted Scoriae on YouTube, it is revealed that the Duke is a member of the band "The Seal Unleashed" as the vocalist.
    • Duke Erisia confirms that The Seal Unleashed does, in fact, perform Sin-Smelted Scoriae every single time someone challenges him to a fight.
  • Although he is clearly capable of using both Legion Kata and Way of Navae respectively, he only ever uses the Way of Navae light attacks and Legion Kata critical attack.
  • Duke can be (rarely) seen conversing with the Mindless Servants in the tubes next to him idly. This is likely a bug, as Mudskippers and even Terrapods can start small talk when idle.
  • He is able to drown; if you glitch you and him into the water under his arena with Skeleton Key (or otherwise) and knock him there, he will drown and die. This does still count as a kill for you/your guild, but you cannot get to his loot afterwards.

Bugs[]

  • Killing Duke Erisia while your character has an attunement you've obtained through the respective quest will cause ([Attunement] Attained) to appear twice, even if you have the respective attunement unlocked on that account. It won't mean anything if you already uncapped attunement and is just a simple bug that has been in the game.
  • Can instantly cast Aero Spear if his head is caught under something, especially the pipes found around the edges of his arena.

If you don't kill all the enemies in the first area, the Duke and his servants won't spawn in the arena (possible to see via spark swapping with either a golem prime or brainsucker located in the second area).

  • Duke has approximately 700 erudition
