Overview[]
Echoes are a currency that is obtained by wiping characters. The amount of Echoes gained through wiping increases based on how much progress the character had made before being wiped.
Echoes can be spent on Upgrades; permanent buffs that transfer with each Character Wipe. While in the character creation menu, the Echoes tab can be used to spend Echoes on Upgrades. In addition, Modifiers can be enabled in this menu.
Modifiers are increases to difficulty that increase the amount of Echoes gained from wiping. Multiple Modifiers can be enabled at once. There are currently 13 Modifiers available, providing a total cumulative 3.2x modifier to Echo gain.
Echo Upgrades are account-wide, so purchasing an upgrade on one slot will affect the rest.
The maximum amount of Echoes that a character can get (excluding rebargaining with Yun'Shul) is 140. (441 with all Echoes Modifier)
Ranks are granted to the character upon wiping, based on how much base echoes they have obtained (before multipliers)
Ranks by themselves do nothing, beside rank W, S and A that give a badge and, in the case of W, an emerald name on the player list. The emerald name overrides Silver & Gold names from Chime of Conflict.
A Rank now gives 1 character slot for free.
S Rank is achievable by doing all echoes tasks (listed below).
A unique W Rank is achievable by obtaining S Rank while having enabled every Echoes Modifier, excluding Vow of Thorns.
What rank your character will receive depends on amount of echoes you collect, without taking modifiers multiplicator into consideration.
Rank | Echoes Amount |
---|---|
W | 140 (441 w/ all Echoes Modifiers except Vow of Thorns) |
S | 140 (Must do all echoes tasks) |
A | 112-139 |
B | 87-111 |
C | 60-86 |
D | 30-59 |
E | 0-29 |
Ways of Obtaining Echoes[]
Echoes are awarded depending on the number of Triumphs the character accomplished before wiping. Each triumph awards a different number of echoes, and with a small number of exceptions, each Triumph can only be achieved once.
- Gaining Power, awarding 0.75 Echoes (rounded) per Power level (15 Echoes at Power 20).
- Crafting a Food item, awarding 1 Echo.

(You have to CHOOSE it, not just have the resonance roll) (WARNING: If, for whatever reason, you decide to reroll your resonance in the Fragments of Self, it will count as not having chosen the resonance and the task will be left INCOMPLETE, EVEN IF you managed to acquire a resonance before dying.)
Upgrades and Modifiers[]
There are 14 upgrades to purchase, and each can be purchased a maximum of 1 to 6 times, depending on the upgrade. Purchasing the maximum level of all echo upgrades costs 2650 echoes.
Enchants and legendary weaponry can be passed down using the Hippocampal Pool for 40 echoes per item even if they're Soulbound. This is not renewable.

Echo Talents/Items[]
Other than replayability, Echoes can also be Talents and Items; all acquired under meeting requirements and completing quests.
Echo Talents or Items, once acquired for the first time, can be obtained in later Power Levels per Character after. If you attempt to complete the quest again in another slot or another life, you will gain an extra Talent hand (maximum of 3 or 4, may be more as updates keep rolling).

Trivia[]
- Buying echo modifiers will apply their effects to previously created slots.
- Visually, combining all Echo Modifiers grants 3.2x Echoes, but, dividing 441/3.2 will give you 137.8125. Instead, Dividing by 441/3.15 will give you 140, the maximum amount of echoes. This is due to the game always rounding to the nearest tenth, even if the value is not true. Even with vow of thorns AND dealbreaker, it will still do this for unknown reasons.
- The term "ironwoken" is reminiscent of the "ironman" mode in RuneScape, preventing trading among other restrictions.
- Also notably, a Rogue Lineage challenge video called Iron Lineage created by ReEvolu is credited with starting the solo-progression trend within Rogue Lineage (Deepwoken's predecessor). The developers have confirmed that this echo and the "Maverick" boon are both references to ReEvolu's Iron Lineage series, as ReEvolu convinced them to add both as a tester.
- The term "One Bit" could possibly be a reference to One Piece, in which Devil Fruit users are unable to swim.
- The four Weapons from "Advanced Weapons" are obtained in linear order through purchases listed below:
- The seven Tools from "Advanced Tools" are obtained in linear order through purchases listed below:
- A Lumber Axe and Pickaxe.
- Flint and Canteen.
- Repair Hammer and Fishing rod.
- Glider.
- The actual effects of "Resonance Rarity" boosts the chance to receive Corrupted and Legendary Resonances by 0.2x per upgrade, with your chance doubling at the max upgrade.
- Kelsius' mantra hand and Deep Shrines do not get autopicked with destined so you can abuse this to look for cards with more comfort.
- Ironwoken can actually be bypassed by dropping an item on a slot and then picking up that item on the Ironwoken slot. Both slots have to be on the same account.[1] This can also be done by storing items in your bank from another slot and grabbing it on the Ironwoken slot.
- Unlike all the other bosses in the game, defeating Maestro Evengarde Rest does not reward Echoes.
- This technically makes him the only true "optional" boss in the game, as he is not required for W Rank.
- Chain of Perfection was made to not gain stacks on mantra hits. But due to massive community uproar the change was reverted it but made multihits give you less stacks.
- Not only does using the Idol of Yun'shul count towards the "Bargained with Yun'Shul" echo task, but it will also count when used in the Fragments of Self. However, your deal if used in fragments must not be Resonance Reroll, or it will most likely remove it from your completed tasks.
