Fishing is a mechanic that allows you to obtain seafood and various valuables using a Fishing Rod.

How to Fish[]

Fishingicon

To fish, first craft or purchase a Fishing Rod. To craft a Fishing Rod, you must combine two Sticks and one Fiber at a Crafting Station. You can purchase a Fishing Rod for 30 Notes2 at the Etris Docks and the house at the base of the tall island between the Isle of Vigils and Etrea, or for 35 Notes2 from a fishing pond room in a Guild Base.

The next step to fishing is to cast your line into either the sea or a fishing pond. After a while, you will get a bite, and your character will begin leaning in a certain direction. You must hold the key that is displayed on your screen. As you are doing this, start clicking rapidly, this will reel in the fish. You are also given a time limit, failing to reel in the fish in the correct time will result in you losing the fish. Clicking with the wrong key can also lose you the fish. You can tell when the fish is almost caught/escaped when the circle is almost completely closed. you will catch the fish when the fish icon reaches the border.

Though bait is not required for fishing, it is highly recommended as you are able to get better loot and catch fish slightly faster. To equip bait, hold out your fishing rod and attempt to hold out any uncooked edible food, such as fruit, mushrooms and fish meat. Some baits have moderate changes in catch rarity and/or slight changes in catch speed, but it's not super significant.

Fishing can also level each physical attribute (except weapon) given enough time. Notably, it provides a large amount of willpower experience in comparison to other stats.

The frequency and quality of loot from fishing is also heavily based on the location you are fishing in. Even slight angle adjustments in the same spot can lead to significantly better results.

Loot From Fishing[]

Many varieties of fish can be obtained from fishing, as well as some loot. Fished up objects can very rarely be golden. The bigger the fish, the better the loot. The loot you can get from fishing is:

  • Sea Bass
  • Red Snapper
  • Tuna
  • Swordfish
  • Squid
  • Urchin
  • Pufferfish
  • Seaweed
  • 1 Mudskipper (Will spawn a Mudskipper)
  • 1 Lionfish (Will spawn a Lionfish)
  • Old Boots (Leather Boots)
  • Chests (Uncommon, not "very rare" you can probably fish up 1-5 chests in a 10-20 to minute time period if you are very good. Not all loot can be obtained from fishing (There are some exceptions) Example of Chests that can be fished up: Aratel Chests, Bandit Chests, Mudskipper Chests, Depths Chests, And Primadon Chests.)
  • Golden/Enchanted Fish

Everything you can get from fishing has its own chat bubble pop-up, as a reaction of your character, with most of them being puns or word plays.

  • If you fish a Sea Bass: "It's a Sea Bass! Where's its instrument?"
  • If you fish a Red Snapper: "A Red Snapper! Quite the sailor's mouth on this one..."
  • If you fish a Tuna: "Holy moly, a Tuna! I wonder what at-tuna-ment it is?"
  • If you fish a Swordfish: "A Swordfish! Too bad I can't equip it..."
  • If you fish a Squid: "Cool Squid! No, I'm not squidding."
  • If you fish a Pufferfish: "A poisonous Pufferfish! Careful eating this one..."
  • If you fish an Urchin: "Barely edible..."
  • If you fish a Seaweed: "It got stuck on a Seaweed..."
  • If you fish a Mudskipper: "What the...?!"
  • If you fish a Lionfish: "A LIONFISH?!"
  • If you fish a Treasure Chest: "Woah! A Treasure Chest!"
  • If you fish a Golden Fish: "Huh?..."

Bait[]

A lot of raw food can be used as bait, obviously I didn't have them all while testing so this list is obviously incomplete as well as pretty poorly made. This was tested at the left of the Etris docks, at the beach where the Den Master is.

Below is a list of bait that can be used. Don't see a valid bait? Feel free to test and add data!

Trivia[]

  • The general format and delivery of the lines that your character speaks is a possible reference to the Animal Crossing series.
  • Some spots won't let you fish.
  • There is no height limit, you can fish from the top of cliff faces.
  • Some locations are better for fishing than others, for example the Vigils Docks.
  • Fish meat can be used as bait or as food, though I would recommend cooking it if you are intending to eat it. Cooked Fish Meat is a pretty solid food item, giving you 15 Stomach Fill and 5 Water Fill. Good for Carnivores that need food.
  • It's always good to have a fishing rod on you. If you're ever in a pinch, you can fish for food and items that can be useful on your journey.
  • If you would rather not get carpal tunnel while fishing, you can use an auto clicker with its interval being set at 2 milliseconds for the best optimization (Tested.) be careful, as making a mistake can result in the "Catch" escaping.
  • The harder the difficulty of the "Catch" (Aka. The fishing minigame, which the difficulty of is measured in Reel Speed, Direction Change Speed, and Fishing Time Limit.) the higher rarity of the item you may receive upon completing the fishing minigame.
  • You can get Enchants, Deep Gems, and Legendary/Mythic Equipment from fishing chests, but it is VERY rare. Specific locations seem to have higher chances of getting these.
  • Fishing will level your Strength, Fortitude, Intelligence, Willpower and Charisma by default.
  • The Waterfall at Miner's Landing is the BEST source for Seaweed Bundles. Trust the process.
  • Fishing used to contain every single item inside of it's lootpool as long as it was in any chest pool, this lead to infamous incidents such as the Verse 1 Enchant Shard incident. After this happened, a quick patch was rolled out to allow blacklists to items and chest pools, such as the blacklisting of Enchant Stone chests.
    • Ever since this patch was rolled out, fishing activity declined.
  • During the Warring States Era fishing would give points to the race you had.
  • Fishing up a golden swordfish allows you to use it as a weapon.
