Miscellaneous[]

Aeons ago, a long extinct species faced a cultural schism in response to the rising tides. Those Talented few blessed with the art of Lifeweave vowed to turn their backs to the tides and grow great living hives above the ocean, becoming what the modern world knows as Vesperians. However, a minority decided to instead embrace the coming waves, sinking to the deep and settling in as its latest drowned inhabitants. These adventurous folk became our modern Ganymedes.

Ganymedes are the antithesis to Vesperians. While the Vesperians fight against The Depths, the Ganymedes adapt to it. However, both of them are considered "weird" and outcasted by other races.

Ganymede Faces[]

Trivia[]

  • Despite having no apparent mouth on their faces, this has seemingly no impact on them other than visual difference. They still talk, breathe and eat. It may also be possible that their mouth is simply the exact same darkness as the rest of their face.
  • Their appearance bears a resemblance to the black mages from the Final Fantasy series and the Snail Shaman from Hollow Knight. As the Ganymede are meant to represent snails, it is possible the latter is a direct inspiration.
  • During the 4/1/2022 April Fools update (Mudwoken), Ganymede's race name was changed to Hatskipper.
  • Ganymede is one of the rarest obtainable races in the game, the other ones being Capra and Tiran.
  • Ganymedes make up the main population of the Hive along with Vesperians and Chrysids.
  • Ganymede begins with an unobtainable hat by default. It is dyeable & smeltable, and if not smelted will be removed upon wearing any other headgear.
  • In Greek mythology Ganymede was depicted as the "most beautiful of mortals" and a cupbearer of the gods.
  • In the Verse 2 update, Ganymede had its racial trait updated. It added the extra effect of using less Knowledge on top of the pre-existing sanity multiplier.
    • They are the only race to have their racial Talent updated.
  • The Ganymede hat can be removed by holding P and pressing the hat icon.
  • Ganymede's name and the names of its variants are taken from the moons of celestial bodies.
  • Everyone used to believe that ganymede have less insanity gain as passive race buff, but this video Ganymede Testing destroyed this myth, instead ganymede has 1.2x sanity multiplier
