Description[]

High Inquisitor Merey is a Canor NPC, she is the lead of the Inquisitor division for The Central Authority garrison positioned in the Eastern Luminant, and a Thundercaller.

She appears aged with small wrinkles around her eyes. She wears a uniquely marked Blindfold, a Brilliant Cape, a Inquisitor's Duster, and a pair of Grand Authority Sabatons. On her right side, she holsters a bell at her hip, signifying her strength to obtain a Resonance. On her left side she wields the Big Brother dagger.

Location[]

High Inquisitor Merey is located inside of the fortress at Fort Merit, she is on a hidden floor below Warden Jericho.

  • To find her, the player can enter a cracked wall on the south side of the fortress. From there, enter the cracks and air dash to enter her corridor.

Dialogue[]

*With her visor covering her eyes, she remains inscrutably impassive, though you are sure that she is tracking every movement you make.* Private - it seems you've strayed a little too far from your post. It'd be more appropriate for an ensign like yourself to return to your Drill Sergeant, rather than waste time poking around where you oughtn't be.

*You recognize the shadow-clad Canor woman with dark, lightly-silvered hair and a visor. This is the High Inquisitor, Merey Scarsen. You offer a salute.* ...Ah. You must be... Lance Corporal [Last Name] was it? Very good. I had just finished looking over the reports on your field mission performance. You pass the criteria for joining the Inquisition division. Would you like to enlist in our ranks?
Yes, High Inquisitor. I'd like some time to think about it, High Inquisitor.
*You salute the High Inquisitor. She offers a solemn, graceful salute in return.* Very well, Lance Corporal. By the powers vested in me, in the name of our Sovereign of Eras, Drallis Ehr, I name you an Inquisitor of The Central Authority. You shall now serve under my supervision. May you be the faithful eyes and ears of the Authority, may you act as it's restless, haunting shadow, and may you slice apart with measured blade the chains that seek to bind us. You may report back to me at your discretion. *The High Inquisitor's eyes, sharp and curious, pierce you like needles from beneath her visor.* Very well, Lance Corporal. Know that it is both a privilege and a recognition of your achievements to receive the offer. If you change your mind... I'll be waiting here.

*You gracefully salute the High Inquisitor. She salutes you back, stern as ever. Though, even through her steeled demeanour, you can tell your presence draws her attention.* Welcome, Warrant Officer. I'm currently preoccupied with something, so if you bring any messages from Warden Jericho, please leave them on the table. If the Warden asks, you may tell him that the plans regarding our latest agent networks are proceeding apace.

*The High Inquisitor nods at you, but her demeanor remains steeled.* Once again, welcome to the Inquisition of the Central Authority, soldier. I must offer a proper introduction. -I am High Inquisitor Merey, the leader of your division. I advise you to learn and understand the weight and importance of your position within the Authority's ranks and to represent me and my team adequately. Restraint and conscientiousness are the most important values an Inquisitor can have. Remind me your name and rank, Inquisitor?
I am [Rank] [Full Name], ma'am.
*You give the High Inquisitor your most rigid salute. She responds kind, in her typical austere fashion.* Good to have you on board, [Rank], Is there anything you'd like to know about?
Could you tell me more about the Inquisition?
We are the eyes and ears of the Authority - and often, its faithful shadows. Your responsibility is to find out everything there is to know about our many rivals through subterfuge and interrogation, even if extracting that information requires some... enthusiastic encouragement. All I ask for is that you keep your tavern 'gossip' to non-Inquisitic matters, and do not spend your time laughing over reactions to interrogation methods. It is certainly not an appropriate topic.
I see. That is all for now, ma'am, thank you.
Very well, I hope that was informative enough. I expect to see you more around more often, [Rank] [Last Name]. I will be observing your career with interest - even if you won't be aware of it. *Uncharacteristically to herself, she chuckles.* If you have any other questions in the future - do not hesitate to stop by. Dismissed. *You once again exchange stern salutes with the High Inquisitor.*

*You salute the High Inquisitor. She returns a rigid salute herself.* Welcome back, [Rank] [Last Name]. I hope your work is keeping up to our standards. Remember - restraint and conscientiousness are the most important values an Inquisitor can have. Now... Do you have something on your mind?
Could you tell me more about the Inquisition?

I met a dark-eyed Adretian with a scar earlier... Were they an Inquisitor?
*The High Inquisitor sighs.* Sounds like you ran into Milgram. Indeed, they're a Handler of our division. Milgram's one of our finest, although they can be quite the individualist. Were they giving you a hard time, Inquisitor? Pay it no heed. In this division, our work is a competition - even if some of the more competitive Inquisitors might enjoy putting down lower ranks, and schmoozing up to peers with good prospects.
Could you tell me more about the Inquisition? I see. That is all for now, ma'am, thank you.

*Upon your approach, she exhales, her previous tension released. She only permits a small, taut smile, but certainly relaxes in your presence, as you exchange easy salutes.* [Last Name], it's good to see you again. And you seem to be doing well. I do hope you aren't too burdened with how antsy the interrogators have gotten - I'm deeply sorry that I don't really have the spare time to help you. But perhaps this tool will provide you with what you need.
[Player obtains Big Brother]
May I ask you something, ma'am?

Sentinel Agustus requested me to pass you a message, ma'am.
*The High Inquisitor's typically inscrutable demeanour betrays a tinge of disappointment.*Is that so,[Last Name]?Most curious.Let me guess...He requests to participate in the next interrogation of General Titus Fulminus Destellus. Did i guess correctly?
...Uncannily so, ma'am. How did you know?
*The High Inquisitor demonstratively brushes off her shoulder. *All in a day's work, [Last name]. Gathering intel is what an Inquisitor does. *She laughs. Just for a split second, it's like she's another person entirely, before she returns to her stern self. * Of course, I jest. You are not the first Inquisitor he's sent my way with this request.
If I may ask - who is this 'General Destellus'?
*She leans back against the wall.*I suppose you're due for an intel briefing, [Last name]. General Titus Fulminus Destellus of the Hundred Legion, commander of the 49th Legion, is currently a prisoner in the Merit Detainment Core. Everything about his case seems unusual. Every circumstance surrounding his capture just raises more questions... Tell you what let's make this a deduction exercise. Where should I start?
What were the circumstances of his capture? I assume he was interogated - what did that yield He seems valuable - have the Hundred Legions asked for his return?
*The High Inquisitor thinks for a moment. * He was captured by a detachment led by Sentinel Augustus in Aratel. They were en route to a separate mission when they encountered General Destellus, with a small detachment of Legion Shock Troopers. The man is known for emerging victorious even against overwhelming odds. yet he was captured in a stray skirmish by a relatively small number of our own soldiers. What next? *Disappointment flashes across Merey's face as she frowns. *Not much, unfortunately. He's rather physically and mentally resilient. Conditions were further complicated by the subject's natural resistance to our traditional methods of a electrical shocks to the cerebrum - something to do with the martial techniques he has mastered. In fact the shocks only seem to invigorate him. And, his astonishingly high pain threshold makes it difficult to apply most other methods. *The High Inquisitor thumbs her chin contemplatively. *They have not. The Legions inquired on whether Destellus is alive and in our custody, but did not attempt to negotiate a prisoner exchange. Although, recent events suggest they may be engaging in acts of subterfuge concerning the prisoner. A recent commotion in the Detainment Core was linked to Legion espionage. The circumstances are still under investigation.

If you haven't spoken to High Inquisitor Merey since you've joined the division, you will be met with this dialogue. You can still obtain the Big Brother by speaking to High Inquisitor Merey again.

Begin
*Despite the visor covering her eyes, the High Inquisitor notices your approach. You both exchange rigid salutes.* Handler [Last Name], is it? I don't believe we've spoken since you first enlisted in my division. But I suppose stealth is the mark of a good Inquisitor. *She gives you an icy smirk.* I've heard good things about your work, Handler. Do you have any questions for me?
May I ask you something, ma'am?
[See first instance]

Begin
*You vigorously salute the High Inquisitor. She gives you a steely salute in return. You could swear she just sighed, if softly.* I'm sorry, [Rank], there are no joint training exercises between the Shock Corps and the Inquisition planned today. Sentinel Augustus and I are still working out the details. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have other matters to attend to. Dismissed.
End

Begin
*The high inquisitor lets out a small, beleaguered sigh as you instinctively salute her. She returns the salute.* Did Augustus send you, Operator? Please tell the Sentinel I can't just 'shock Destellus harder' to make him speak, as it just makes him stronger. Pray also tell him that I'm aware 'he can handle him', and that an interrogation's purpose isn't to start a barefist brawl. If you'll excuse me, I have matters to attend to right now.
End, unlocks dialogue with Sentinel Augustus

Begin
*Although the Canor woman wears a visor, you can tell her eyes are set upon you like daggers.* This area is off-limits to outsiders. I highly suggest you make yourself scarce, civilian... Unless you'd like to be introduced to the Fort Merit dungeons firsthand.

Lost, mouse? Let me show you the way out.

Trivia[]

  • Due to her rank, Merey does not have floral-themed codenames other Inquisitors have.
  • As a Handler, reading the Operation 'Puppet Master' Report will unlock a new dialogue (TBA).
