Instruments, or Shanties, is a feature that was added on the 2023 December 1 update. Purchasing any instrument gives you the "Worn Songbook" item, which you can use to play songs together with your friends or alone. There are currently 4 instruments: The Accordion, Drum, Trumpet, and Violin. Playing along with others staves off hunger and thirst, grants you a blood regen buff, slightly improves your passive HP regen, and a resistance to insanity while in the Depths. It may regen sanity if you have a way to stop gaining insanity, such as the Mark of Jurik Capra race Talent or being Deepbound and in Castle Light. However, movement is limited and you cannot use any other items.
Instruments can be purchased, for 25 
each, at:
- Etris inside the Antiquarian's store.
- Isle of Vigils inside the Inn.
- Castle Light near the campfire.
- Miner's Landing under a ladder in a room to the left of Parsnip and in the Pub (Why are there 2?).
- Greathive Aratel in the observatory.
- The Varicosa District inside one of the buildings in the southeast sector.
If you are near another player, the prompt to play a song now adds Play Along, syncing your instrument with theirs. You can only play along with songs you currently have.
To access songs, you must read the corresponding book. These books can be obtained from either searching through a bookshelf or buying them from a Merchant Ship. The current books in the game that give you shanties are:

Gilded Instruments[]
During the Nightwish x Deepwoken Promotional Event, players could seek out the Ferryman's Records to obtain the Gilded Instruments. These are currently unobtainable.
Spectral Instruments[]
During the Hallowtide event, the Spectral Instruments can be bought from Galpin Spellhardt, Musicologist Extraordinaire for 200 Joy. They can also be bought at any time from any Blacksmith if you have the Hollowtide 2024 Medal for 10 Knowledge.
