“ Consume the souls of your enemies and unleash them in devastating attacks. ”

Description[]

Jar of Souls is a Resonance or "bell" that players can obtain, and is common to roll.

Appearance[]

On input, souls can be found and absorbed near deceased humanoids. With a soul counter indicating the amount of souls the player has.

On output, the user fires a large, bright beam, similar to Lightning Beam in front of them.

Usage[]

Pressing C will activate the Jar of Souls Resonance. Has about 30 second cd (for version 2 at least)

Passively, Jar of Souls store the souls of dead humanoids nearby. Different humanoids or "souls" recharge the resonance in different amounts (this will of course vary from person to person based on their own resonance point usage). However, you'll find higher-tier humanoids recharge the resonance faster than the lower tier, e.g, it may only take one Primal Golem's soul to recharge to capacity, whereas in contrast, it may take 10 Bandit Leader's souls to recharge to capacity.

Activating the resonance fires a white beam that deals damage.

Resonance Point usage[]

When obtained, Jar of Soul will spend its points on the following stats:

  • Beam type: Decides the type of beam that will be used.
    • The burst beam is a singular beam that uses all stored souls at once to deal damage in one instance.
    • The "continuous" beam is a long-lasting beam that hits multiple times and uses the souls stored over time. Hold C to keep firing the laser if available.
  • Refill multiplier: The more points are spent on this stat, the easier it is to recharge the resonance to full.
  • Auto Execute: Decides if your attack can auto execute (Must have at least one soul to do this)
  • Range: The more points are spent on this stat, the further the beam can reach.
  • Corrupted Jar of Souls has more resonance points allocated as compared to regular Jar of Souls.

Trivia[]

  • Version one of Jar of Souls is very similar to "Corrupted Beacon" from Minecraft Dungeons, as both require souls to cast and shoot out a laser beam that does continuous damage.
  • It’s not a benign resurrective magic — it’s a utilitarian, predatory ability that emphasizes the world’s desperation and brutality: souls are currency, and death is harvestable.
  • It may be a reference to the Urn of Souls from The Binding of Isaac which also requires you to kill enemies to shoot it.
    • It may also be a reference to an item of the same name from Risk of Rain, which summons similar ghosts.
  • Golems, which are formed using the souls of villagers, have human souls.
  • The first bell with a passive ability, the second being Resurrection.
  • Your bell will shows up to five dots depending on how many souls you've gather to max it out.
  • It is close in design to Ironman's Unibeam attack.
