Description[]
Maestro Evengarde Rest is the master of the Temple of the Blade and the current Maestro of The Vigils. A powerful individual, he will train and assist only those who he sees fit, so that Etrea, its people and its culture may not be swept away in the machinations of other nations.
Upon challenging Maestro Evengarde Rest to a fight, the player is transported to the Temple Sparring Hall dungeon. Winning the fight will allocate the player a chest of rewards. If it is his first defeat, a guaranteed smaller chest will spawn, holding a unique weapon based on what weapon type you are using; (Purple Cloud for medium, Pale Briar for heavy, Cerulean Thread for light). Losing will cause the player to lose a life and gain the Disgraced Flaw (which can be removed by eventually defeating him). After beating Evengarde once, you will not gain the Disgraced flaw upon further losses.
To start the fight with Maestro Evengarde Rest:
- Achieve (slightly higher than) Ally reputation with the Kingdom of Etrea (higher than Friend reputation).
- The threshold reputation to challenge him appears to be slightly higher than what's required for ally reputation. If the other conditions have been fulfilled and you still can't challenge him, you can try increasing your reputation a little bit more.
- Complete the Lost Sibling quest.
- Complete the Lord Regent's quest and defeat Duke Erisia.
- Power 15
If the requirements are fulfilled, a new dialogue option should appear when talking to him. Choosing it will teleport you to the dungeon.

- Guardbreak Resist - Maestro Evengarde Rest is immune to instant guard break effects. A unique white deflection visual and sound effect will play over his guard when this effect procs.

- A World Without Song - Maestro Evengarde Rest's gale mantras apply Suffocation.
- Risky Moves - Whenever Maestro Evengarde Rest dodges an attack, he'll automatically dodge the next attack.
- Ghost - Whenever Maestro Evengarde Rest dodges an attack, he turns invisible.
- Chronostasis - Maestro Evengarde Rest's basic attacks puts the victim's Resonance on cooldown for four seconds.

- Bulldozer - Getting flourished into a wall by Maestro Evengarde Rest has a chance to guardbreak you.
- Concussion - Getting flourished into a wall by Maestro Evengarde Rest causes your screen to blind and your daze to lengthen.
- Spine Cutter - Getting hit from your back after Maestro Evengarde Rest does a roll cancel causes you to get hit by a second slash.
Strategy[]
Maestro Evengarde Rest is a rather straightforward fight compared to most other bosses, opting out of any gimmicks or puzzles and instead being a simple duel. A decent mastery of how to parry trade with humanoid NPCs is required to resist his attacks.
- His moveset incorporate a mix of quick and delayed moves both, which can catch you off guard and make you lose a parry. If you failed a parry, use a dodge as an attempt to recover.
- Obtaining and equipping the Jade Vigil's Weave, Vigil Sentinel, Summer Dragoon, or Cala-Mariner can help in the fight as they have a total of 15%, 25%, and 30% Wind Armor respectively.
- The Ferryman's Coat can be used as a substitute due to having both 35% Elemental Armor and 5% Wind Armor, as well as its talent converting any elemental damage into Lightning Damage.
- Maestro Evengarde Rest is completely immune to the Providence's Thorns enchantment, so alternatives like Obfuscation or Vampirism can help.
- Chip Damage from weapons such as Shotel, Alloyed Messer, Alloyed Shotel, Alloyed Katana, Kyrsblade, Serrated Warspear, Bloodtide Trident, True Seraph's Spear, Curved Blade of Winds and the enchant Obfuscation will easily chip through his block. However, the Night Axe is the best weapon for this (assuming you fight him with heavy weapons) due to the incredibly high 80% chip.
- Healing from sources like Bloodless Gem can be useful as it allows you to survive much longer.
- Temporary Health from various Bloodrend Talents such as Sow and Mend and Vampirism has a similar outcome to healing. As damage from all sources will be absorbed by your temporary health, this will allow you to sustain your health for the most part.
- Rest, like Duke Erisia, has a Talent that completely counters insta-guardbreaks, playing a sound effect along with a white deflection visual when this Talent procs. To counter this Talent and guardbreak him, you must use high posture damage attacks that do not insta-guardbreak. Unlike The Duke though, he has a very high amount of posture.
- Examples of this are multi-hit moves like Shattered Katana critical or Shadow Gun modified with a Blast Spark. You can also use criticals that do high posture damage without insta-guardbreaking like the Sword critical and Purple Cloud critical.
- Examples of attacks you cannot use are Sacred Hammer critical and Eclipse Kick.
- While Eclipse Kick and other Mantra Guardbreaks do heavily damage his posture, criticals such as Sacred Hammer do 2 posture damage to him, thus it is not recommended to use Instant Guardbreak weapons over high posture damage weapons.
- If you are using Chip Damage, guardbreaking him isn't necessary. If you have the options previously mentioned, you can use those instead.
- It's best to dodge and get out of the vicinity when Maestro uses a multi-hit attack. (Alternatively, if you are already caught, you can either block or spam parry while moving backwards.) There's no real point in parrying all of the hits, and you are bound to get hit, applying suffocation and messing up your chain of perfection. Using Ardour can help to guard break him if you don’t have chip damage.
- When you manage to land a hit on him, Rest is prone to repeatedly getting caught in weak blocks. Often, these are great opportunities to deal some real damage to him, especially if you're using medium or light weapons. He will eventually land a parry or will vent, so be sure to exercise caution while whaling on him.
Loot Table[]
Upon defeating Maestro, he will drop a large chest containing many different item including:
- On First Kill, and at/above 75 WEP (you might need to be unbound), he is guaranteed to drop your weapon classes respective weapon being:
- Cerulean Thread (LHT)
- Purple Cloud (MED)
- Pale Briar (HVY)
- Multiple Mid-Late Game Weapons for each weapon class, along with Deep Gems, Legendary Rings and other Equipment.
- The Windrunner Robes and other Outfits.
- Rarely, the Monastery Champion Set, the Imperial Staff, or Lesser Relics
- Extremely Rarely, a Sinner's Ash
Despite his loot-pool's variety and size, he will mainly drop Enchant Stones, and good starred equipment, though farming him for relics such as Sinner's Ash may prove faster than farming Duke Erisia due to the ease and speed of accessing his fight.
Out of the Deep Gems, he has the highest weighting for Wind Gems, followed by Wayward Gems. Maestro's Ring is weighted more strongly than other rings.

Trivia[]
- The music of his bossfight is The Windsinger's Dance by Naktigonis.
- The fight is a homage to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the game that inspired Deepwoken's setting. Many of the moves reference its abilities and bosses, such as Genichiro Ashina or the One Mind Combat Art.
- For example, the green trails on his blade are inspired by the red trails of the Mortal Blade, wielded by the protagonist Wolf.
- The fight is also similar to Sekiro's fighting style, parrying and fighting more than using spells/abilities.
- All of his Mantras will automatically execute you.
- You can still be manually gripped by him if you die to his critical attack, basic attack or his Mortal Draw: Pressure.
- You will only gain the Disgraced Flaw if you are defeated on your first attempt. You do not get it again if you die to him a second time.
- If you have Nogoras Mahoraga as your current haircut he offers a unique dialogue.
- Defeating him for the first time awards two Knowledge.
- Every next defeat grants one Knowledge.
- Despite apparently having immunity to knockdowns, the Starkindred Oath mantra Ascension and the Heavy Weapon Talent Rending Impact still knocks him down, allowing room for combos.
- Unlike all the other bosses in the game, defeating the Maestro does not reward Echoes.
- This technically makes him one of the only "optional" bosses in the game, alongside the Heart of Enmity, as he is not required for W Rank.
- Spitting on Maestro Evengarde Rest both before the fight and during it makes his character say the following dialogue:
- "This is how you treat my generosity?"
- After this, he instantly kills you.
- His eyes flash onto your screen, a green flash appears on your character's head as the only evidence of his attack, cleaving it apart instantly.
- You fell in battle to... Your disrespect, punished by the Tempest Eye
- This also lowers your Etrea reputation greatly, usually setting it to Neutral or lower depending on your current standing.
- The specific weapon of a different type can still drop if you're using a different weapon type. (Ex: Cerulean Thread dropping while using medium).
- His Hair ID is 6101425666.
- He has heterochromia, meaning both his eyes are different colors. It is unknown whether he has it due to his powers or not.
- On the humanoid AI update, Maestro used to be bugged as his AI was swapped with a bugged version of the Bladeharper AI, he couldn't m1 or parry properly and did not even attack the player unless they used a critical attack or mantras, his Mortal Draw: Floating Passage was nerfed so that the final swing could be parriable as well. As of the 06/15/2025 patch, his AI was fixed and Maestro fights properly once more.
