FOREWORD: An up-to-date spreadsheet for Mantras and their compatible Mantra Modifiers can be found [here]
The Outdated one can be found [here], just incase.
Mantra Modifiers are items that can be used to expand the potential of the player's Mantras. Each modifier has an effect that it can positively/negatively attribute to the player's Mantra. These can easily be found by killing most enemies, and can also be found in Erisia Chests. In order to add Mantra Modifiers, a Mantra Table is required.
There are currently three types of mantra modifiers; Regular, Deep Gems, and Sparks. Regular and Spark modifiers are used at a Mantra Table and are consumables. The player receives the mantra modifiers back upon using an Amnesic Driftwood. Deep Gems can be equipped at a Campfire in its insignia slot. Recalling a mantra with a Deep Gem will return the Deep Gem to your inventory.
Heavily modified mantras will require Note offerings to be made. To see their prices and scaling, review Mantra Table.
Glass Stones and Magnifying Stones seem to have vastly different effects on mantras, ex: Glass Stone / Magnifying Stone
Keep in mind, not all mantra modifiers are obvious and may not work correctly or as expected even if a Mantra is compatible.
Modifiers[]
Regular Modifiers[]
Most regular modifiers come in a basic version (ex. Cloudstones) and an upgraded version (ex. Stratus stones). Exceptions to this are the Amnesic Driftwood and Vibrant Gem. Basic modifiers increase a mantra stat by (+2) and decrease a different stat by (-1) except for Vibrant Gems. Upgraded modifiers will increase a mantra stat by (+3) and will not decrease a different stat.
A maximum of 18 mods total can be added to a mantra. Each mods can also only be added 3 (4 if using Neural Overload) times. Adding mods increase the ether cost of mantras by 10 and 20 Ether for T1 and T2 mods. The Talent Neuroplasticity reduce this increased cost by 20%, down to 8 and 16 Ether.
After modifying a mantra and finishing its creation, uncompatible mods on the table will turn black when the mantra is granted, voiding any of their effect.
Applying Amnesic Driftwood on a mantra will remove all previous upgrades including sparks. Upgrading an already upgraded Mantra will stack onto the previous upgrades.
Note: On the 08/02/2022, T2 modifiers (Stratus Stone, Perfect Lens, Eternal Logstones, Rush Shards) were given downsides, similar to their T1 counterparts. These numbers would be appreciated.
Specific Effects of Modifiers[]
Cloudstone[]
- Causes the projectiles from the "Ice Lasers" mantra to shoot multiple bullets consecutively.
- Causes "Shadow Seekers" to summon more projectiles
Glass Stone[]
- Adds a massive AoE explosion of ice spikes for "Glacial Arc."
Deep Gems[]
Deep Gems are rare Gems that can be applied to mantras to improve them at no additional cost.
Deep Gems can be obtained from:
- Primadon (roughly 10% drop chance)
- In any chest from Layer 1 (very low drop chance, betters odds from corrupted monsters)
- Ship events that spawn Depths chests
- Hell Mode completion chest (guaranteed)
- Chaser (very likely)
- Scion of Ethiron (guaranteed)
- Randomly bought for 15 Joy at The Floating Keep (limited to the Hallowtide seasonal event)
- Ferryman (Rare/uncommon chance)
- Fishing (Incredibly rare, highly dependent on the location fished)
- Etris: Siege Chests (Very Common)
- Both kinds of chests from the Deep Crucible (Rare)
- Trial of the Gourdskipper (Uncommon, limited to the Hallowtide seasonal event)
- Depths Collapse Event in the Depths (Common)
- Maestro Evengarde Rest (Common)
- The Diluvian Mechanism (Common)
- Saramaed Hollow (Common)
- War Mode (common)
You can equip a Deep Gem by going to a campfire, holding out the Gem and finding the mantra you'd like to equip the gem on. After, click on the black box in the Campfire Menu, below the "Created by [NAME]" dialogue.
To remove a Deep Gem from your mantra, you need to Recall the mantra. This will return it to your inventory.
Image | Name | Effect |
---|---|---|
Blessed Gem | On hit, reduces the cooldown of the mantra it's on by half. This gem has a cooldown of 5 seconds. | |
Bloodless Gem | Damage reduced by 20%. Heal user for 60% of damage dealt. Cap of 15 HP per second. This gem has a cooldown of 1 second. | |
Blue Gem | Reduces Mantra ether cost by half, including Ritual Casted mantras.
This is the only gem that provides a tangible effect to mantras that do not hit enemies. | |
Insignia Gem | The next Mantra you cast within a short timeframe will have a 50% windup reduction. This effect has a 5 second cooldown. | |
Wayward Gem | Puts a mark on the opponent alerting them that they have been tagged by a Wayward Mantra, before teleporting you to them after a second has passed. | |
Wind Gem | Hitting an enemy with the mantra will increase your speed for 8 seconds, equivalent to the speed buff given after sliding down a slope. |
Sparks[]
Sparks are modifiers that are only able to be used on specific mantras.
If the modifier cannot be applied to the specific Mantra you use it on, a message appears reading Incompatible Ingredients, and you will lose the spark and other modifiers involved.

"You feel dizzy when you hold it." | ||
"You feel unnaturally calm when grasping this stone"
Possible sanity recover if you hit the attack.(?) Tested with multiple Mantras, either the sanity recover is very slightly or it does something else.

"The azure stone glows vibrantly, but emits no warmth."
| |||
"You feel unsettled when grasping this stone"
Could give insanity on to the target if attack hits. Looks identical to falseflame.

Tips/Trivia[]
- Mantras that aren't written/listed are likely incompatible.
- Clicking a mantra modifier (not Deep Gems) will produce small white dots that travel in the direction of the nearest mantra table.
- A good place to farm for low-level mantra modifiers, especially Sparks, is Duke Erisia's Manor. A gargantuan amount of Mindless Servants and Brainsuckers spawn there when entering the manor.
- Having incompatible mantra modifiers or not having enough notes to successfully modify formerly voided the mantra modifiers. This is no longer the case, and they are refunded on any failure.
- There is an NPC called the Den Master that sells mantra modifiers including Cloudstones, Amnesic Driftwood, Drift Shards, and Crystal Lenses for 10 notes each. He's located in a secret cave near Etris near sea level.
- A good way to obtain any spark you want guaranteed is going to Ata at Meteor Isle. She sells any spark for 350 each.
- Glass/Magnifying Stones are the only known mantra modifiers that are crafted from other mantra modifiers.
- The 5 blue disks above of where you place your Modifiers & Mantra indicates how much of a Value you add into your Mantra. For each 5 Value of any kind, 1 disk lights up.
- The blue discs on the top formerly illuminated per each requirement of Knowledge, a stat from closed testing that no longer exists. This requirement was replaced with Notes on January 13, 2022, persisting even after Knowledge's new reimplementation.
- The Falseflame, Haunting Stone and Mirage Stones are unreleased material (as confirmed by Arch_Mage) and not meant to be in the game yet, and as such do not do anything.
- Revenge requires Drift/Rush Shards to reach further instead of Lenses.
- Low-level mantra modifying (for example, 2 Cloudstones and a Blast Spark) does not cost notes. It only starts costing notes past a certain threshold.
- Logstones can modify the duration of elemental effects that are innately applied by certain mantras (i.e. Wind Gun).
- The Blast Spark variant of Shadow Assault is very likely a reference to Sunakiniti's Blessed's Rampage from Rogue Lineage, and by extension, Akuma's Shun Goku Satsu from Street Fighter.
- The Spring Spark variant of Flame Repulsion is most likely a reference to Satoru Gojo's "Reversal Red" technique from the anime Jujutsu Kaisen.
