“ The light rearranges into a missive now legible. It details the tenets of an Oath - that we are born with our eyes closed, and we merely choose to open them. ”

Description

Oath: Blindseer is one of the 17 obtainable Oaths in Deepwoken. The Oath is based around utility and uses sanity as its resource. It can serve many useful and potentially life-saving purposes in combat and in The Depths. It is the opposing Oath to Visionshaper.

  • Meet the following requirements:
    • Have 40 Willpower
    • Have the 3 Talents from the Mental Fortress set: Breathing Exercise, Conquer your Fears and Disbelief from Talent rolls, not equipment. (You can reroll these into different talents at the Shrine of Chance once you obtain the oath)
    • Be blind, either through the Blinded Talent from Blindfolds or the Blind Flaw.
  • Head to Lower Erisia and make your way to the bandit village past the camp in the ruins.
  • Above Path's Respite lies the Temple of the Forgotten Flame. Climb up the wall bordering the village to reach it.
  • Climb above the temple doors or go through them if they are open and proceed inside the temple.
    • Watch out for the Watcher guarding the temple, as they will spawn a Hollow Angel if they catch sight of you
  • Another location is at the Lightkeeper Temple, Inside of the room with a King Thresher.

Once inside the temple, proceed through a passage on the left.

Blindseer can be reobtained if you Oathbreak it.

Progression

To progress the Oath and obtain the Blindseer Mantras, you need to help Pathfinders, players who lack an Oath, in the Depths Trial. The first Mantra is unlocked after the first successful trial, the second at 3, and the last at 5. A passive Talent is also obtained after four trials (you can quickly leave three seconds after the Voice of Authority starts talking). Do note that helping people who have Oathless will not grant progression.

Blindseer will only progress if you are faced with a trial. If both the Blindseer and the Pathfinder are low enough level to not receive a trial, you will not gain Blindseer progression.

Alternatively, if you've fully progressed the Oath in a previous life, 10 Knowledge can be spent to immediately unlock all related Talents.

The hints toward how to progress this Oath are glyphs located at Summer Isle - in the colosseum-looking structure, and the Lightkeeper Temple - in the room with the King Thresher.

Effects

This Oath grants the player 1 Wildcard Mantra, 1 Support Mantra, 1 Combat Mantra slots and 10 Sanity.

This Oath also grants the players full vision and increased brightness while wearing a Blindfold, it also cures the Blindness flaw. Blindseer appears as an eye in front of the player's Blindfold. When used with Vesperians, they can be seen with two glowing prong-shaped markings and a glowing Blindseer icon above their mask. While you gain full vision, you still benefit from the positives effects of Blinded, namely the sanity bonus and the immunity to blinding mantras. You are not forced to keep the blindfold after obtaining the Oath.

With the stat requirements, the Talents, the blinded Talent and the Oath Talent stats, you total a large amount of sanity (154 sanity, nearly double your initial 80 sanity), allowing you to stay for an extensive amount of time in The Depths at no risk.

Abilities

Talents

    • All-Seeing Eye - The mystic eye through which you now see the world can perceive the imperceptible. Invisible foes are highlighted.
      • Invisible players and monsters are revealed by a Blindseer Eye icon.
        • Specifically reveals those under the effects of Ghost, Static Flash Clone, Cheap Trick, Illusory Servant's casting, Beast Burrow and Portals. This also works on floor 2 crawlers, making the New Kyrsan sewers significantly easier
      • With this Talent, the Tacet Murmur is completely nullified, allowing you to see cloaked players normally.
      • This works on anyone who is invisible, yourself included.
      • Reveals players in disguise.
    • Obtainment: 4 Pathfinders helped in the Depths Trial (must be alive)

Mantras

Combat Mantras

    • Sightless Beam - Turn insanity against your enemies, incredibly strong against depths creatures.
      • Fires a high pressure beam from your eyes. The entire beam deals around 150 damage as basic dmg (0 songchant). With extra damage and posture dealt at the start of the beam.
      • This mantra can make you go insane if you use it too much.
      • Sightless Beam can be canceled midway by pressing F.
      • Steals eyesight proccing the blind effect if enough hits land.
      • Has a high windup.
        • Not parryable, deals a little bit of posture damage every hit. Can be used to bait vents by staying at a distance.
      • Deals bonus damage to any monsters from the Depths family (Gigameds, Crustaceous Rex, Nautilodaunt, Enforcer).
        • Nautilodaunts and Enforcers are very likely to just block the entire beam. It is advised to get a friend to distract them.
      • You can run during the windup, but can only walk while the beam is active.
      • Getting hit by a Vent while using Sightless Beam cancels it.
    • Obtainment: 5 Pathfinders helped in the Depths Trial (must be alive)

Support Mantras

    • Mindsoothe - Give comfort to your allies by sharing in their burden.
      • Heals your allies for a flat 60 health at the cost of your Sanity.
      • Has a 60 second cooldown.
      • Allies include Guildmates, Roblox friends, and those with whom you share a Vow of Mastery or Vow of Allegiance with.
      • The sanity cost is only deducted on a successful heal.
      • Hold block during the cast animation to heal everyone in range, regardless of ally status.
      • Doesn't work on NPCs.
      • Doesn't have a ritual unlike the gif shown below
    • Obtainment: 1 Pathfinder helped in the Depths Trial (must be alive)
    • Tranquil Circle - All within the ring cannot cast Mantras. Those who stand within the ring gain 10% Monster Armor.
      • This affects everybody, including the caster and their allies, making even yourself unable to cast Mantras.
      • Bosses are immune to the silencing aspect.
      • While inside the circle, gain total immunity to Mantra damage.
      • This is one of the few sources of Monster Armor, making it very useful for M1 PvE builds.
      • About the size of a medium Sacred field roll.
      • Can be modified with a Magnet Spark. This makes the circle much smaller but makes it follow the user.
    • Obtainment: 3 Pathfinders helped in the Depths Trial (must be alive)

Notes

  • Blindseer Mantras don't scale with Willpower at all.
  • Having the Blind Flaw removes the Blindfold requirement, and is essentially a free boon point with this oath
  • While you don't need to keep the Blindfold equipped after obtaining the Oath, having the Blinded Talent grants immunity to abilities like Gaze and Flame Blind. The Blind flaw also grants this effect.
  • Well-suited Oath for PvE.
  • Pairs well with Lose Your Mind, a Talent that makes you deal more damage the more insane you are.
  • You can reroll the Mental Fortress Talents and still keep the Oath.
  • Many Blindseer moves drain your sanity as a price, so it's best to use the moves with caution.
    • With enough willpower and sanity, it's not usually that bad.
  • If you wish to dye the Blindseer eye Oath cosmetic, you need to dye the Blindseer Cosmetic, not your actual eyes. - as of June 1st, 2025.

Trivia

  • When taking the Greathive Aratel fountain into Summer Isle, there is a glyph on the wall, using the same decal as the one you interact with to obtain the Oath. Upon inspecting this glyph with the Oath, it notably mentions not-so-subtly that the duty of your Oath is to "Free the lost souls from their shackles, help them escape into the light." This, of course, references the fact you have to help Pathfinders in the Depths trial to progress the Oath.
    • The glyph on the wall also can be found the room with the King Thresher in Lightkeeper Temple, the glyph also stating about how to progress the Blindseer Oath.
    • Interestingly, other glyphs don't say this, therefore this is the only way of figuring out how to progress Blindseer if it isn't through sheer luck from trying different things.
  • Vesperians with this Oath do not have a glowing Blindseer eye, and instead have blue three dimensional markings on the outside of their mask, with an eye-like shape formed at the top. However, they used to be seen with a gold and black mask similiar to the mask on the statue in The Lordsgrove.
  • If you do not have the Blind Flaw and you unequip your face accessory while having Blindseer, you'll be visually given a dark yellow-ish blindfold that cannot be dyed nor unequipped. This blindfold has no stats nor Talents and cannot have its visual toggled.
  • Going in first person counts as yourself being invisible for All-Seeing Eye, as your character is not rendered in. If you look downwards while in first person, you will see the All-Seeing Eye vfx, and it will project light onto the surfaces around you.
  • As stated in an interview with the owner of the game, Raguza, he got the inspiration for Blindseer when he was cosplaying Lee Sin stating 'I could suddenly see the truths of the world' upon wearing his blindfold.
  • If you use the equipment forger at Summer Isle or in the Trophy Room of the guild base, you can have a face item different in appearance with the same effects as a blindfold.
  • Back when Mystics had unique dialogue for every Talent category, Blindseer had the Mystic line "I will protect this world."
  • Be extremely careful with who you let into your trial, as you have no idea if the Pathfinder you're helping has an Echo Modifier such as Vow of Thorns or Deep Champion, or if they have activated the Shrine of Courage. It's recommended to bring Pathfinder friends to help you progress Blindseer.
  • The mask of a statue in The Lordsgrove (across from the one of a Hivelord, to the left when you enter) features the old Vesperian variation of Blindseer.
  • A red Blindseer eye was used as the visual warning for unparryable attacks before being replaced with the dynamic Telegraphing system which shows a variety of glyphs instead. (Changed in the May 24, 2025 update)
