“ Yeah. We are a pretty underground Oath. You probably haven't heard of us. ”

Description

Oath: Fadetrimmer is one of the 16 obtainable Oaths in Deepwoken. It's a utility Oath that grants you the abilities of a barber. Together with Oathless, Linkstrider, Contractor and Dawnwalker, it is one of 5 Oaths that have no direct stat requirements.

“ Whatever, man. ”

Fadetrimmer is a enigmatic oath taken by all barbers in order to morph the physical appearance of their customers. By taking this oath, you are given a pair of seemingly sentient scissors as you and your new companion set out to fix the direst of hairlines and trims.

Obtainment

Meet the following requirements and talk to a barber about Hair Cutting:

  • Power 12+
  • Change your hair 12 times at any Barber (the hairs do not have to be unique, restoring to your natural hair 15 times will work also).
    • If you have changed your hair enough times before being power 12, you do not need to repeat the step.
  • Talk to the barber and pick the option "How is it you're able to do all this stuff?" continue the dialogue, asking to take the Oath. For a more in-depth walkthrough, consider watching this video.

This Oath does not become locked after breaking it at Yun'Shul.

Effects

This Oath grants 1 Combat Mantra Slot, and 1 Wildcard. As for appearance, the user has scissors hanging off the side of their hip.

Trivia

  • The Fadetrimmer Oath was mentioned by the Barbers ever since they were added to the game, on August 22, 2022. The Oath was added to the game on the July 24, 2023, almost a year later.
  • Fadetrimmer originally started as a joke Oath among the community, the joke being the obtainment method. Arch_Mage confirmed that it most likely wouldn't get an obtainment. Like a lot of things he says, this didn't age well.
  • Revitalizing can be used on more than one ally, offering a good amount of support, on par with Reinforce.
  • Fadetrimmer's haircuts will stay on the opponent for ten minutes, or when you leave the server.
    • It also bears similarities to a few Attunement-less moves. For example, Close Shave is very similar to Prominence Draw, as they both lunge and deliver a fast slash, and Precision Cuts is very similar to Exhaustion Strike, but with more hits.
  • The description of this Oath is a reference to the "Ginger Fringe Incident" meme.
  • Charming Hair Product is virtually useless due to the existence of Charismatic Cast.
    • Likewise, Flammable Hair Product is a fairly slow option to apply fire that does no damage by itself- using Flamecharm mantras applies fire while dealing actual damage at the same time. Flammable can proc Lava Serpent, if that's any bonus...
  • Due to Revitalizing, Fadetrimmer is a solid Oath choice for a support-based build. However, Linkstrider is still arguably the best support Oath.
  • The color of the scissors on your hips can be changed with a dye packet.
  • Breaking this Oath by talking to Yun'Shul makes your scissors say: "Whatever man."
  • Precision Cuts is likely a reference to Gwen's Q ability from League of Legends.
  • Although seen as a joke Oath, it has a few uses in PVE (Ex: Using Flammable Spray as a placeholder for Flamecharm's burn effects and the Mercy Kill Talent).
