“ We Owls find man to be capable of... Suitably sophisticated thought, enough to indulge our palate... You will fill the minds of our prey with grand facades, ripen them for us. When your time comes to pass, you too will become a feast for the Nest... ”

Description

Oath: Visionshaper is one of the 17 obtainable Oaths in Deepwoken. It allows one to utilize the power of illusions with a pact made with The Nestmind to quickly and effectively overwhelm their enemies in various ways. It is the opposing Oath to Blindseer.

“ Things aren't always what they seem, little mouse... In time, you may pretend to be one of us, use abilities inherent to my kind... And you may do with these as you please, but are you prepared to pay the toll? ”

Visionshaper as an ability is the power to make illusions reality, one granted by a Vow the user makes with The Nestmind, allowing them to bring Deep Owls into reality by simply imagining them being real. The Visionshaper pact is a malevolent one however, as once a certain amount of time has passed, the Deep Owls devour the Visionshaper's mind, killing them. This has no reflection in game, however.

The abilities below are listed in order of obtainment.

Effects

Abilities

Passives

    • Shaper Swap - Press X to swap position with your clones.
      • Swaps your position with your clone, teleporting you to their current position and them to yours, very large range of ~350 studs.
      • You can use Shaper Swap within up to 0.2 seconds after using a move.
        • You can also use Shaper Swap during the middle of an attack with negative endlag. (Ex. before the second slash of Umbrite Witherblade's crit)
      • The keybind for Shaper Swap can be configured in settings.
        • Sharing certain keybinds allows the user to do both actions at once, such as teleporting while executing players. (Executes also have no range limit)
      • Has a cooldown of 4 seconds.

Talents

    • Cheap Trick - When hit below half health, briefly disappear, leaving behind an illusion clone to keep your enemy occupied for a short duration. Briefly disappear after knocking an enemy.
      • This talent has two abilities, activating under certain criteria listed below:
      • Upon landing the final hit on a target:
        • The user will become invisible for exactly 2 seconds.
          • This invisibility cannot be cancelled, and will not grant any I-frames or speed boosts.
          • While the user will be hidden, wisps and any lighting VFX (Ex. enchantment glows), will not be hidden.
        • Will not spawn in a clone.
        • Works in PvE however has no real benefit. (Mobs/NPCS will still see you)
        • Has 3 second cooldown, as it cannot be re-activated during its duration.
      • Upon being hit below 50% health:
        • The user will clear hitstun, shortly turn invisible, get pushed back, and spawn in a clone. (In that order)
          • The clone lasts 15 seconds, and cannot be modified. (6.5 seconds on targets with disbelief)
          • The invisibility lasts 0.5 seconds, does not grant I-frames, and also doesn't hide any wisps or any lighting VFX.
          • Will forcibly push the user backwards from the direction they're facing, removing user directional input and ignoring all slow effects.
            • This will also cause the player to move upwards if they are somehow facing downwards.
        • Immediately after getting hit the user clears hitstun and is instantly allowed to block/dodge freely.
          • However this will only activate on the very first tick of damage, causing grabs/multihits to ignore this.
        • Can be repeatedly activated by the user as long as they're hit below 50% health so long it's off cooldown. (No need to get back above 50% to reactivate)
        • Has 50 second cooldown.
    • Reality Shift - Command the closest conjured servant to attack their hallucinating target, using either a Critical Attack or a Mantra.
      • Pressing J or utilizing the Reality Shift tool will make your clones use their stored ability.
      • Clones created from Mirror Illusion will copy your opponent's last used critical or mantra instead.
      • If the clone is too far away from your opponent upon using Reality Shift, they will teleport to them.
      • Clones will copy your attunement path and mantra modifiers (currently bugged) when utilizing your mantras, but they do not utilize your enchants or most Talents.
      • Reality Shift cannot be activated if no targets are nearby.
      • Clones will only copy the standing critical or aerial of weapons and cannot trigger any other alternate criticals. (Ex. running/sliding/crouch exclusive crits)
      • Has a cooldown of 5 seconds.
    • Shaper Mimicry - The servants you have conjured will imitate your actions when you Swing/Block/Parry/Jump.
      • Your clones will repeat your basic actions like jumping, M1'ing, blocking, venting, and parrying.
      • By jumping, you allow your clones to use the aerial variant of attacks with Reality Shift.
      • Despite block/parry/dodge sfx/vfx appearing, vents will still delete clones that successfully defend them. (Outranging vents however, works)

Mantras

Combat Mantras

    • Illusory Servants - Illusory servants to await your commands
      • Windup of 0.5 seconds, spawns an illusory clone, grants user invisibility + I-frames for 0.2 seconds.
      • The last non-Visionshaper mantra or critical attack you used before spawning your clone will be saved.
      • Cancelling an attack will still count as "using it", causing the clone to store feinted/interrupted moves.
      • The name of currently stored attacks is written above the clone's head in white text with a purple outline. (Clears on use)
      • The modifiers of mantras will be copied.
      • Clones disappear in 3 hits, but are immune to damage over time effects.
      • Clones cannot copy enchantments/talents.

      • Cooldown scales with modifiers.
    • Illusory Counter - Fool others into striking and retaliate.
      • Ready a stance for a brief moment. If hit during the stance, negate the attack, swap places with your opponent, and spawn a Visionshaper Clone on the right side of your opponent.
      • Can be modified with a Reversal Spark which spawns a clone of your opponent, similar to Mirror Illusion.
      • User can't move while using Illusory Counter.

Support Mantras

    • Mirror Illusion - Mirror your opponents and use their arsenal to your advantage.
      • This mantra knocks back targets within its radius and creates an allied clone of them.
        • Has the same properties as allied Visionshaper clones, including Shaper Mimicry.
        • The clone stores the target's last used non-Visionshaper mantra or critical attack, and will attempt to use it on its target when using Reality Shift.
        • Deals 30 (oath?) damage.
        • Only works on humanoids.

Notes

  • You are supposed to be able to meet the "Complete Aelita's Encounter" requirement for obtainment by participating in the Carnival of Hearts, however this has been bugged since its addition and does not work.
  • Almost exclusively a PvP Oath, as the clones die very easily in PvE and deal significantly less damage than the user. On top of this, Mirror Illusion doesn't even hit non-humanoids.
  • If you wish to dye the Visionshaper eye trail Oath cosmetic, you need to dye the Visionshaper Cosmetic, not your actual eyes. - as of June 1st, 2025.

Trivia

  • The Mental Fortress Talent, Disbelief, only affects Illusory Servants, reducing the amount of time they last by half.
  • Sudaruska's Fury counts as a non-Oath mantra, and can be used by your Shaper Clone, under the name "IceStorm".
  • If you use Mirror Illusion on an enemy using a Worn Songbook, the clone will imitate it and use the same instrument and song.
  • Using Illusory Counter with its Reversal Spark can allow for some interesting interactions in PvE, as it's the only ay to clone non-humanoid mobs and bosses.
    • When cloning non-humanoid mobs, they'll T-pose and won't be able to move or attack. It's more of a funny interaction rather than something you can actively use in combat, especially when someone clones the Heart of Enmity or some other very large mob.
    • When cloning humanoid bosses, it allows you to see the internal name for the ability they used last. For example, Duke Erisia's Aero Spear ability is named DukeBlast and his Strong Left-like attack is named DukePunch. You can of course use Reality Shift to make the boss clones use their copied boss abilities.
  • Back when Mystics had unique dialogue for every Talent category, Visionshaper had the Mystic line "I speak to the Owls."
  • This Oath was created by Dexerius, along with Arcwarder, Blightsurger, and Saintsworn.[1]
    • Dexerius was thought to have taken inspiration from Naruto for Visionshaper, notably the Shadow Clone Jutsu and Genjutsu from the series, but this was proven false.
  • On 20th of September 2024, Visionshaper received a rework that removed Illusory Realm for Mirror Illusion, and changed the behavior of Shaper Clones. If you had a slot that had Visionshaper pre-removal of Illusory Realm, your Illusory Realm would be replaced with the Disguise Mantra.
  • Illusory Counter was able to reverse grabs such as flame grab, allowing you to use your opponent's mantra against them. It is unknown if this is still possible, as the latest video of it is from Verse 1.
