“ Pay back your enemies for the damage they deal to you. ”

Description[]

Payback, also known as Counter or Full Counter, is a Resonance or "Bell" that players can obtain, and is common to roll.

Appearance when Used[]

When used, a green circle appears around the user and shrinks until the Resonance finishes.

How to Use[]

Pressing C will activate the Payback Resonance.

Payback reflects all damage inflicted within the Resonance's timeframe to the user's opponents.

If Payback is corrupted, it gains lifesteal from the reflected damage, equal to 50% of damage dealt, with a cap of 20% health per use. Do note that this cap is per use and thus, hitting multiple targets will not let you heal more.

  • Posture reflected will be based on how much damage was taken, with low damage dealing low posture while high damage deals high posture.
  • 80% of damage will be completely absorbed when the Payback is charging. True Damage (ex: Edenbrand Hellcoil Crit) can bypass this, but will still have the damage reflected back.

Versions[]

Payback has four different versions.

  • Version 1, the instant variant will instantly reflect any damage/status effects taken within ~2.5 seconds to the user's opponents.
  • Version 2, the sniper variant will multiply and reflect all damage taken within ~1.25x seconds and fire the damage through a thin beam forwards of the user that deals all damage instantly.
  • Version 3, the delayed variant will multiply and reflect all damage taken within ~1.5x seconds and will deal damage to the user's opponents at the end of the bell's usage.
  • Version 4, the continuous variant will multiply and reflect all damage taken within ~1.5x and will fire a thin beam constantly with multiple ticks for the duration.

Trivia[]

  • Payback (excluding instant variant) can be either blocked, parried or dodged.
  • Instant and Delayed variant can reflect any status effects given to the user during the timeframe i.e. getting hit by a fire mantra will cause the opponent to be set on fire also/getting hit by an m1 will apply the m1 hitstun to the opponent. Note that you will still be affected by the same status effect.
  • Similar to other resonance's this one can be cancelled if the user is hit during their initial bell windup.
  • Version 1 of the spell was named after and functions very similarly to the ability that Meliodas has in the anime "Seven Deadly Sins".
  • This resonance was formerly known as "Full Counter".
  • The best way to counter beam variant payback resonance is by using the instant/delayed variant payback. This usually will reflect the multiplied damage on top of multiplying it, the strategy can be used against jar of souls resonance if possible
  • Prediction mantra but better with a higher duration.
  • Payback beam variant can be used for damage redirection which differs it from other 2 variations due to the other variants being limited to reflect damage to those who attack the user whilst the beam variant can redirect damage to multiple targets if given the amount of enemies to can hit.
