- “ There are those of the faith - like myself - who swear an Oath to the Church. Through the Ichor that runs through our veins, we dedicate our lives to its protection. We prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. ”
Description[]
Samael is an NPC that will grant you the Starkindred Oath. He is located in the hidden area in the Derelict Highchurch, go down the trapdoor ladder and walk around the library interacting with a red book on a bookshelf; this will collapse the false wall hiding the large white double doors. The book is the same each time. Interact with the book again to open the doors. He will be found to the left of the unconscious Celestial.
He wears a Pathfinder Arch-Sorcerer over a dark cloak and hood and dons a bright yellow Starkindred halo. On his back are a pair of black wings.
His old appearance simply left him with the old Angel mask that completely hid his identity while keeping the Pathfinder Arch-Sorcerer outfit.
Dialogue[]

| Ah, a pilgrim wanders into the sanctum. Is it guidance you seek? | |||||||||||||||
| What is this place? | I'm not a pilgrim. | ||||||||||||||
| An interesting place to stumble into... Providence, perhaps? Was it faith that brought you here? | Curious. If not a pilgrim, then what brought you here? Do you seek the faith? | ||||||||||||||
| Faith? | |||||||||||||||
| Ah, so you truly are uninformed. You stand within a sanctuary constructed by the members of the Starkindred Church that shelters the wounded form of a Celestial. This is a very sacred place indeed. | |||||||||||||||
| What makes it so sacred? | What happened to the Celestial? | ||||||||||||||
| Whether they be living, wounded, or deceased... Their ichor - their blood - is holy. To stand in its presence is a blessing that we cannot take lightly. Many of us are sworn to protect it. | It was found near-death in the Rotlands, embedded in this cocoon. We have done our best to preserve it. | ||||||||||||||
| What happened to the Celestial? | Sworn to protect it? | Preserve it? Can it not be healed? | Was it crucified when it was found? | ||||||||||||
| [See first instance] | Yes, there are those of the faith - like myself who swear an Oath to the Church. Through the Ichor that runs through our veins, we dedicate our lives to its protection. We prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. | Alas. Such a miracle is beyond mortal hands. We believe that there will come a time when their wounds heal. And when they rise, we will stand at their side to face the Deep once more. | *They smile.* We believe so, yes. Many of the Celestials we have found were in a similar state. We believe it to be a form of self-imposed martyrdom. | ||||||||||||
| What's the risk of it falling into the wrong hands? | The Ichor runs through your veins? | I see. You said something about being sworn to protect it? | A Celestial martyr? | I see. You said something about being sworn to protect it? | |||||||||||
| *They narrow their eyes briefly, appraising you.* ...It is sacred to us. Should you learn more of the faith, I am sure you will understand. | Indeed, we take the sacrament and accept the blessing of the Celestials. Only those who are willing to offer their whole being in service to the divine and who bear the strength to withstand it may do so. | Yes, there are those of the faith - like myself - who swear an Oath to the Church. Through the Ichor that runs through our veins, we dedicate our lives to its protection. We prevent if from falling into the wrong hands. | Indeed. It is surely providence that they arrived as they did and blessed us with the gift of their Ichor. It is all the more reason for us to venerate and protect their gift. | [See first instance] | |||||||||||

| *They narrow their eyes briefly, appraising you.* There is power within it. Power that we cannot allow to be used for evil ends. We bring justice to the sinners that profane its divinity. | |
| To desecrate something so holy... Is there any way I can help? | Power that you yourself make use of? |
| As a matter of fact... Yes. There is one who has yet evaded our justice. A vile and wicked wretch by the name of Iblis who turned his back on the faith. | Yes, though it is only in service of the Celestials that we use it. |
| Allow me to bring justice to him. | To desecrate something so holy... Is there any way I can help? |
| *They nod.* You do us a great service. He senses our approach and makes himself scarce. Being not of our order, you will not raise alarm. He often sculks beside the Star Tree within Starswept Valley. If you should bring him a just end, let me know. | [See first instance] |

| So, is it done? Has Iblis been brought to justice? | |

| Iblis is slain. | I have not yet succeeded. |
| So, it was providence after all that brought you before us. Perhaps you are worthy to join our order. Would that interest you? | Hm. Lost your way? You may find him by the Star Tree that dwells within Starswept Valley. Ensure that he is brought to justice. |
| It would be my honour. | End |
| Having returned the Ichor that Iblis profaned to its rightful place, it is only right you be permitted to drink of the sacrament. Should you accept, you must hold but one thought as you drink - that it is your duty to protect it. | |
| It accept the sacrament. | |
| *The viscous fluid singes your mouth. As it sinks into you, you feel it slowly begin to course out into your veins, pulses of agony washing over you with every heartbeat. Clutching onto the words Samael left you is all that keeps afloat above the dark void of unconsciousness. And as your mind empties of all other thoughts, the agony finally begins to subside...* | |
| ...I see. | |
| Welcome, kin. It is an honour to have you. Though, with this power comes a holy mission. I am afraid there is much more work to be done. | |
| What would you have me do? | |
| There are three sinners that still taint this land. A rot dwells within the wilds beyond this Church, beneath the shadow of the Watergates. To the north, a foul odour pierces through the aromas of salt and gunpowder. And finally, by the Lighthouse, a stench permeates the scent of sulphur. | |

| I'm ready. Let me speak the Words in their entirety. [10 Knowledge] | What's the significance of the Suncross within the faith? | ||||||
| Requirements met | Requirements unmet | As you might notice with this particular Celestial, it bears a striking resemblance, no? We believe it to be a message from the Celestials. We must uphold the light in their absence. The Suncross is symbolic of the sacrifices made by our Gods, their struggle, and their divinity. | |||||
| The sinners are still out there, but I cannot deny that you have proven your piety. Perhaps your task is greater than merely taking care of loose ends. The stars will avail themselves to you, of this I am sure. | TBA | ...Is the Suncross a Celestial? | Does the Moonseye hold a similar position? | ||||
| End, player instantly full progresses the Starkindred Oath | End | *They smile.* Some sects of the faith believe so. I cannot fault such a line of thinking, but having spent so much time in the presence of a Celestial, I do not believe it to be so. To the senses of we Starkindred Oathsworn, it does not seem to possess Ichor. We do not feel the same connection to it that we do to the Celestials through our Vow. So in a sense, we interpret its gift through the gifts of the Celestials. | The Moonseye is sacred, of this there is no doubt. Within the Starkindred faith, the Moonseye is the gateway to the promised land that we will journey to upon the revival of the Celestials and the banishment of the Deep. We believe that the souls of deceased Celestials make their way to the Moonseye to make preparations for the promised day. It's comforting to think of them looking down at us from it, no? | ||||

| What's up with the twisted Starkindred that roam the Rotlands? | |||
| Ah, you have encountered a Maljuror? They are those that the Ichor has rejected. Either in their initiation or at some point in their service, they lost their faith and fell into sin. As such, they are rightly punished by the divinity within them, and twisted into wretched beasts. You need not pity them. | |||
| So you're saying I could become one of those things? | The sinners we hunt don't seem to be affected, though? | ||
| *They smile.* Only if your faith falters, kin. From what you've displayed thus far, I don't foresee it being an issue. Do you? | No, not as such. They seek the protection of the Ichor, but it is for their own selfish ends. They have 'faith', but it is heretical. They turn their back on the flock. | ||

Trivia[]
- Of the currently playable aspects in-game, Samael cannot be any of the following based on the absence of their defining traits: Adret, Capra, Chrysid, Ganymede, Gremor, Tiran, or Vesperian. This narrows the possibilities to Canor, Celtor, Etrean, and Khan.
