Overview[]
The Second Layer of The Depths, starts with the Ethironal Shrine, a bridge between Scyphozia and the resting chamber of Ethiron. It consists of the Shrine, the Maw, and the Sanctuary. All leading into the Cathedral. Just be wary of the parasites coating the floor like strange snow.
Below the first floor lies the Sleeping City, more detail can be found on its respective page.
Access[]
Unlike other dungeons, the Second Layer has multiple different methods to access it, while more in-depth on the Second Layer page, it can be accessed via either jumping into a void while above 50% Health (75% in Player Combat), by taking the Ignition Union’s deepdriller from the Chariot’s Spire, dying in depths to a player with the contractor Oath while having an Oath or by talking to Klaris Llfiend, Mother of Lights while above Power 15.
Going into the dungeon via Klaris will provide a safe-guard in the form of a Light-hook, which will safely eject you back into Layer 1 if you die within the first 20 minutes of entering.
Objectives[]
For a visual guide, consider watching this video.
While navigating the First Floor, there is a clear-set quest-line, which will prove to make subsequent runs easier after the first time done.
Main Questline[]
- Open the starting door via a glowing orb on the cliffs of the outskirts (alternatively use the resonance door).
- Turn on the Generator at the top of the tower near Pilgrim's Respite, this requires you to kill a weakened Bone Keeper.
- (OPTIONAL) Gain the Union Hook Talent by traversing the snow in Layer Two until you reach the Frontier Furnace and talk to Alpha. You may also talk to Llevyn to activate the Deepdrill.
- Retrieve the Blue Spear within the depths of Firfire Caverns (OPTIONAL AFTER THE FIRST RUN), and go to Firfire
- Talk to Leader Erosius Wallistoshus, where he will then open the door to the Nest Corridor. If you have a form of wall-clipping, you may skip talking to him.
- (OPTIONAL) If you have talked to Llevyn, you may take the Deepdrill in order to abandon a run early within the Nest Corridor.
- Traverse through The Maw of Ethiron and reach The Cathedral in order to defeat a traitorous Black Diver.
- From there you may either Leave or Delve Deeper.
- Note that delving deeper will lower your hook time to 10 minutes if you have more than 10 minutes left on your hook.
Puzzle Route (Skip)[]
To do this repeat the same steps as the Main method up to 3
- Instead of obtaining the blue spear in the firfire caverns keep going and then make a U turn to the left, keep walking forward and eventually after seeing a fence on the wall there will be a floor collapse, you will then go the opposite way you were going until you see openings to the left which you will go to the deepest one, by then you should see pits of parasites hidden by fog, make a right turn and then keep going until you see rocks which allow you to climb over a layer of fog, you will then find the entrance to the puzzle room
- to complete the puzzle you must enter the right symbols in the 4 slots before the spikes reach you (The spikes wipe you instantly) the code is fairly simple, from the entrance it goes 2 1 3 4, if you are confused on which side you came from if you follow from the gray door the order will be 4 3 1 2.
- Run from the 2 bounders until you reach a portal
- enter the portal (Requires defeating chaser once on your character before)
Traversal[]
The Eternal Gale is full of threats towards the player, and thus, should be briefed.
Fog[]
Upon exiting the outskirts and entering the shrine, the first thing noticed will be the thick fog around the player. While this can be negated later, it proves no threat aside from inhibiting the players vision within the shrine. There is no fog after exiting the Firfire cavern and approaching the Cathedral.
- The fog may be heavily reduced by obtaining the Ethiron's Gaze Talent from the main questline.
Parasites[]
The Parasites function as a passive time limit for the player, accumulating over-time in snow covered areas until they all burst and leave the player dead. It takes ~5 minutes for a lethal amount of parasites to accumulate on the player, instantly killing them. Parasites do not accumulate within areas with no snow.
Though, these are reducable via the following means.
- Winter Corps Parka: +1.5 minutes.
- Survivalist: +1.5 minutes.
- Wormwarder Lantern: Negates parasites, movement speed penalty.
- Grand Fisher Helm: Negates parasites.
Otherwise, in order to remove your parasites, you must interact with an Ignition Lantern, which removes all parasites instantly.
However, it is important to be warned of parasite pools, which heavily accelerate parasite gain by 5x.
Insanity also influences parasite gain, so if you go into a parasite pool with Heretic's Sutra used, you better get out quickly.
Wind[]
Upon exiting the shrine, the player is greeted by a strong gust of wind attempting to push them off, and in order to not get knocked off, the player must move towards the wind. If the player does not fight against the wind, they will instead be thrown off with an un-cancellable ragdoll and a great knockback, either knocking them into the snow filled floor of the shrine, or directly into a void.
- It may be negated via wearing the Delver Boots.

Points of Interest[]
Leaving the Second Layer[]
There are three different methods to escape the second layer, however all of which require pre-requisites.
Lighthook[]
- This may only be used if you have accessed Layer 2 via Klaris and her light hook.
- You may Die or use the Lighthook in order to escape.
- However, you will lose all loot if you use this method to escape.
The Deepdrill[]
- Do Floor 1 as normal.
- After killing the Bonekeeper and activating the Generator, instead head to the Frontier Furnace.
- Talk to Llevyn in order to activate the Deepdrill.
- Escape Firfire Cavern and head into the Nest Corridor, but instead of going to the exit, go straight into the Deepdrill.
- You will have escaped into The Chariot's Spire and lost all loot if you do this method.
Finishing the Floor[]
- Do the entire floor and defeat Chaser.
- Instead of going down into New Kyrsa, The Sleeping City, take the giant lighthook out.
- You keep all the loot gained.
Recommended Talents & Equipments[]
Do note that this list is assuming that it is your first few delves within the Eternal Gale, as you get more experienced you may find yourself needing these Talents less.
- Carnivore (5STR/5WLP): This Talent is required in order to stay within the Gale, as it replenishes Thirst and Hunger on kill.
- Warriors Respite (15FTD): Allows you to heal within the second layer without killing. As campfires/graceful is disabled, this is the only method to passively heal aside from Health Packs.
- Surestep (Delver Boots) / Brickwall (100FTD/100WLP): Grants resistance to the wind, making you immune to the ragdoll of the winds.
- Wormwarder (Wormwarder Lantern) / Coldseep Reactor (Grand Fisher Helm): Grants complete immunity to the parasites of the Eternal Gale.
It is important to note that very few good items drop from standard enemy lootpools, and as such it is better to farm the Boss rather than the monsters.
