Description[]

The Central Authority (frequently referred to as simply "The Authority") is a large military organization native to the Central Luminant. The Authority is a militaristic, authoritarian, and expansionist regime led by a mysterious individual named Drallis Ehr, who reigns as Grand Sovereign. However, Drallis Ehr's identity is debated, and some believe he may not actually exist. The Authority is the main enemy of the Kingdom of Etrea.

The military of The Authority consists of both real-world insignia (Private, Corporal, Lance Corporal) and more fantastical titles (Warden, Vice-Warden). The Authority has multiple 'corps' in their military structure, including the 'Shock Corps', the 'Leadership Corps', the 'Winter Corps', the 'Inquisitor Corps', and formerly the 'Expeditionary Corps'.

The most commonly used attunement among Authority personnel is Flamecharm. There are multiple instances of Thundercall also being used, however only a handful of NPCs actually utilize it in-game. While uncommon, other attunments are used by The Authority. For example: Frostdraw is used by Authority Captains and Captain Marley, while Galebreathe is only ever used by the Vice-Warden within the Merit Detainment Core.

The Authority is highly treacherous and dishonorable; they have conspired behind the backs of their allies to get what they want. The Authority works with many smaller factions, including The Ignition Union, The Summer Company, The Divers and The Knives of Eylis.

The upper ranks of The Authority heavily favor Adrets and Canors, implying a systemic racial prejudice of some sort. Whilst other races are present in the Authority's ranks, they are usually relegated to rank-and-file soldiers, excluding a handful of extreme situations. This is also notable in the lyrics of the Gideshu March, which frames the Authority's acts as partially motivated by the desire to spread specifically "Adretian" fame. Given its origins and popularity, this implies this sentiment is well known and held among the low ranking infantry.

Gameplay[]

  • Everyone aside from Adrets start out with lower reputation with The Authority. This starting reputation is only slightly lower than neutral, meaning that helping the Authority once or twice in Erisia is enough to set your reputation to neutral.
  • The Authority's base of operations in the Eastern Luminant is Fort Merit.
  • Randomly encountered in the Starswept Valley and Erisia.

Relationships[]

Reputation[]

All origins start with neutral reputation with The Central Authority. The Authority is notorious for being an extremely easy faction to anger.

The Central Authority is a bounty board faction. The Authority also has a reputation reset NPC located in Merit's Reach.

The Central Authority has jobs on almost every job board in the game, making Authority reputation very easy to gain.

While The Authority lacks in reputation beneficial quests, it benefits from having the most Random Encounters of any other faction in the game. Assisting The Authority in any of these events will grant you positive reputation:

Negative reputation will prevent you from accessing Fort Merit exclusive NPC's such as the Banker and Antiquarian as usual.

The Fort Merit rescue quest automatically lowers your reputation with The Authority upon completion.

Trivia[]

  • While the Logo could imply that The Authority are to act as a shining beacon to the other four Luminants, due to it being star shaped, it may also hint to The Authority being tied to Celestials.
  • The Central Authority has clear relations with every faction except Lost Celtor.
  • Windrunner implies the Authority's war against Etrea is primarily to stop Zi'eer, Etrea's Lord Regent, from causing a Great Drowning in the Etrean Luminant, with the 'Warmaster' deciding to take drastic measures to go to war with Etrea to invade Etris and then try to stop Zi'eer and his contractors.
    • However, the Operation 'Puppet Master' report makes it clear that this was not their reason for invading in the first place, and implies this is being kept a secret from most of the Authority's forces. Their lack of presence on Minityrsa and hostilities with The Children of Navae also seem to contradict with this mission.
    • These may be due to the closing of the Eastern Interstitial Lighthouse cutting off orders and reinforcements from the Central Luminant.
    • Interestingly, Warden Jericho believes the Authority's peacekeeping may be contributing to the drowning, likely due to the casualties it's generating.
  • Although the Authority are a major faction, they received very little out of the Deepwoken: Verse 2 update, this is probably because of the fact that Fort Merit and such is just a fraction of the Central Authority.
  • The Deepwoken: Duskgard Verse 3 Chapter 1 update offered an expansion on The Authority's content through an origin pertaining to them aswell as an expansion to Fort Merit.
  • Though the Authority are enemies with the Hive, they are not actually in an official government sanctioned war, unlike Etrea and the Legions. They don't invade each other; they only fight on the battlegrounds of Aratel.
  • The Authority has an unofficial marching song called "The Gideshu March", named after (and written by) the first lieutenant of The Authority, August Gideshu. The march quickly became popular among the many regiments and has therefore become a popular marching song. Some even consider it The Authority's unofficial anthem, though the more elite Authority members views on this are not entirely clear.
    • "The Gideshu March" has a line saying, "Bring order, peace, Adretian fame!" showing their biases towards Adrets are something worn on their sleeve rather than kept hidden.
  • A very common misconception among the fandom is that the Authority is not racist. It's very bizarre that this even has to be stated, but the Central Authority are very much racist. Them employing other aspects is merely pragmatism, allowing them to annihilate any other foe with ease thanks to them not stupidly refusing free manpower and meatshields, and is something that has been done by numerous infamously racist groups in real life.
