Description[]

Vows are a power parallel to, but distinct from,[1] the Song. They are made by making a 'promise' of sorts through words that emanate from the soul, however, unlike Oaths, Vows seem to be able to be made exclusively between two people. Most Vows only exist for narrative purposes, but a few are available for gameplay use.

Known Vows[]

Vow of Mastery[]

The Vow of Mastery allows a master to make other people their subject, being able to verbally command their subjects to perform specific actions. Experienced masters are able to issue more powerful commands, such as ordering a subject to immediately return to them or to defy all odds and fully restore all their health to continue living. A Master may have multiple subjects at once, however, a subject can only be in a Vow with one master.

Vow of Allegiance[]

The Vow of Allegiance allows a person to be considered an ally by one's abilities, taking reduced damage and being able to be affected by supporting skills such as Reinforce and Blindseer's Mindsoothe. Your guildmates are already considered allies and thus do not need to perform a Vow of Allegiance with you. Friends on Roblox are automatically allies as well. This can be activated by saying "Wanna make a vow of allegiance, [Player Name]?"

Vow of Safekeeping[]

The Vow of Safekeeping is often used by bankers to keep specific important items, such as soulbound equipment, enchanted items, legendary weapons and relics safe. It is unclear how the Vow works in detail, But it can be assumed that it prevents the banker from tampering with or losing the received item. Ingame, this Vow costs 1 Knowledge to perform.

Vow of Companionship[]

The Vow of Companionship is different due to the fact that it is created between a human and an animal, allowing for a bond to be created and a 'language' of sorts to be developed between the creature and the human. The only person who mentions this vow is Sordino, who sells you mounts.

Hereditary Vows[]

These are Vows that were made prior to the arrival of most animal-based aspects in Lumen, and the ones that allowed said aspects to exist in the first place. They were made a long time in the past by pagan tribes who worshipped animals, causing the descendents of those tribes to have animal-characteristics, as described in the book "Vows by the Sea: Inheritance". The only aspect that does not possess a hereditary vow are the Adret.[2]
