Description

Watchers are environmental hazards that have a lamp-like head with a slender, skeletal appearance. Watchers cannot be damaged by any means, but will summon Hollow Angels to attack the player. Watchers can be found in scattered across The City of the Drowned while one only exists in the Temple of the Forgotten Flame.

Their body is malnourished to an extent that their ribcage is visible, and their abdomen being nearly hollowed out. They have extremely long arms, with five fingers on each hand with long claws. Their legs are nearly the same length as their arms, having nearly the same characteristics. Their head appears as a flower, with the outer "petals" being a dark olive color, its outer layer being wrinkly and veiny. The inner "petals" are pink, and holds a large, glowing orb in the center that allows it to see.

Attacks

Name/Danger	Description
Watcher's Gaze (★★☆)	The Watcher gazes into your very soul, rapidly depleting your Sanity, distorting your vision, and sprouting large black spikes out of the ground. Additionally, two Hollow Angels/one Sworn Angel will be spawned. The spikes do not deal damage, but instead they limit your mobility, acting as physical barriers that prevent your escape. The only way to avoid this attack is to physically move out of the Watcher's line of sight. The Watcher will not use this attack on you if you are wearing the Sworn or Hollow Angel Masks. Activating Tacet will cause the Watcher to break like of sight with you, ending this early. Tacet can also be used to avoid this attack altogether. Only one Hollow Angel will be spawned if the Watcher is at the Temple of the Forgotten Flame. The Watcher cannot use Leap during Watcher's Gaze. ⚠︎ Unparryable ⛉ Unblockable ↻ Undodgeable ¤ Debuff + Summon

Passives

• Intangibility - These monsters simply cannot be hit.. by most attacks.
  • Very few attacks can actually deal damage to Watchers, such as Warden's Blades, however Watchers have a VERY high healthpool.
  • Watchers can also take environmental damage, though this is only possible through Teleportation.

Dialogue

You can converse with the Watchers if you are wearing the Sworn or Hollow Angel Masks. Due to the Angel Mask Talent, Angel's Guise, the Watcher believes that you are one of its angels. This is important for context.

This dialogue will be activated if you take off your Angel Mask while the Watcher is looking at you. If the Watcher wasn't locked onto you while you had the Angel Mask equipped, they will use Watcher's Gaze instead, and you will not be able to converse with them.

Trivia

• While killing a Watcher is possible, it takes a very significant amount of time due to their outrageously large health pool, so it isn't recommended. When killed, the Watcher's corpse cannot be interacted with nor executed.
• Watcher's Gaze has three rings of Greek letters on its visual effect, stating:
  • Outer-most circle - "Let not my body falter in the transmission of this vow, for I am of spirit, of soul, of conception, I am incarnated,"
  • Middle circle - "and with full knowledge and understanding of the absolute and inalienable authority over the vow,"
  • Inner-most circle - "that I speak and solemnly swear with all the courage I have that this song will be heard forever."
• The Watcher located in the Temple of The Forgotten Flame only summons one Angel.
• The Watcher by the Temple of the Forgotten Flame is also known as the "God on the Peak" from Alastir's dialogue upon bringing him the surviving villagers.
• The Watcher by the Temple of the Forgotten Flame was, according to it, brought along with Erisia once it drifted out of the Voidsea.
• The Watcher’s appearance is a possible reference to the Demogorgon from Stranger Things.
• Each Watcher has a shared cooldown of 2 Minutes before they are able to spot the same entity again.
